On May 4th, 2019 The Wu-Tang Clan will re-envision the area that once served as their playground. Coinciding with the official street naming of The Wu-Tang District, the area on Sobel Ct between Targee St and Park Hill Ave will be transformed into a vision of a community center and playground ‘for the children. From the streets of Park Hill and Stapleton in the early 1990s, The Wu-Tang Clan was born. This iconic hip-hop group has remained connected to its hometown since its inception.
In 2018 the State of New York and the Borough President of Staten Island proclaimed November 9th WU-TANG CLAN DAY. Along with the street-naming recognition, the group hopes to highlight the importance of services to support the community and of course, the children.
Children. Family. Community. Clan. Care.
“Wu-Tang is for the Children”
The day’s events will include the dedication and reveal of the street sign, along with words from city council member Debi Rose, city officials and community leaders, members of the Wu-Tang Clan and special guests.
There will be fun for the neighborhood, along with Park Hill’s own Hot 97 DJ Smoove on the one and two, games and activities, free giveaways, community outreach & information booths.
A VIP luncheon, meet-and-greet and photo op with the Clan will be held off-site for Council Members.
