R. Kelly’s controversial past is coming to Lifetime next year.
Multiple women come forward about sexual, mental, and physical abuse accusations against the R&B icon as part of the six-hour docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.” The first trailer (via Rolling Stone) offers a preview into the traumatic three-part investigation.
“There’s a difference between R. Kelly and Robert,” says one unidentified woman. “R. Kelly’s this fun, laughing, loving guy. But Robert is the devil.”
The two-minute clip addresses the lawsuits, charges, and claims against the 51-year-old singer, who is described as a “monster” and “puppet master.” “There’s a difference between R. Kelly and Robert. R. Kelly’s this fun, laughing, loving guy,” says another woman. “But Robert…is the devil.”
“Surviving R. Kelly” includes over 50 interviews with John Legend, singer Sparkle, Wendy Williams, and civil rights activist Tarana Burke, as well as Kelly’s ex-wife Andrea Kelly, ex-girlfriend Kitti Jones, and brothers Carey and Bruce.
“I should have never introduced her to him,” says an emotional Sparkle while speaking about her niece, but denies she ever took money to buy her silence. “I didn’t take the money, because I can’t be bought. He ain’t a monster by himself, it took some help.”
“Surviving R. Kelly” will air in three installments from Jan. 3-5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
