J. Cole has been hooping a lot lately. A few weeks ago the St. John’s Alumni was seen running full-court games and now Cole is back in the gym working on his long-range game.
In a video posted by NBA Skills Coach Chris Brickley, Cole is shooting from about 30-40 feet away swishing every shot.
J. Cole standing about 6’2 did have hoop dreams and even walked on to the St. John’s Red Storm team before turning his focus to music and leaving the ball behind.
J. Cole’s rap career in a lot of ways has had a connection to hoops whether it was through lyrics or the cover art to his projects. On his debut mixtape, The Warm Up, Cole is holding a basketball in the album cover, and on his debut album, Cole is dressed in a letterman jacket in a locker room.
“Coach wouldn’t let a ni**a off the bench no wonder why I didn’t quit the team,” Cole raps on “Mr. Nice Watch.” Given that connection to hoops and rap, it could leave one to wonder if Cole’s frequent hardwood visits could mean he’s working on new music. Perhaps that’s a bit of a reach.
