With his sharp pen game and equally potent flow, Vin Jay deftly takes on the topics of drug abuse and suicide—two issues near and dear to him—in his powerful new video for “Break Down.”
Much like the track itself, the visuals portray the struggles of a young man grappling with his mental health—to the point where he attempts to take his own life several times. All credit due to the actor in the video, as well as Vin Jay himself, who shows up in the final third to show his compassion and understanding of how his friend could reach such a point.
There’s a very distinct realness to it all, and you can tell Vin Jay approached both the video and his lyrics with the utmost respect and love. That’s because he actually went down a similar path prior to turning his life around, and he’s using his music as a way to encourage others to know that help is available and that they’re not alone. You can also call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline anytime, 24/7, by dialing 988.
Check out the visuals—directed by Anickan, who also directed Vin Jay’s “Brain Dead” video—and head over to your preferred streaming platform to support. Vin Jay’s Karma EP is set to drop Friday, May 12 through his own label imprint via Compound Interest.
