Four months after his death, XXXTentacion posthumously releases a video for his hit single “Moonlight.”
In the dark and chilling clip, which he wrote and creative directed, the late rapper sits alone at an outdoor party under the full moon. He makes his way through the forest, smiling at other guests including one female, while he listens to music on his headphones. But he eventually returns to his lonesome under a tree, tuning out the world while listening to his music.
The video ends with a dedication to the 20-year-old rapper, born Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy: “Energy never dies. He is amongst us. Long live Jah.”
“Moonlight,” which peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, is the second posthumous video release from XXX following “SAD!” in June. X has also posthumously appeared on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V (“Don’t Cry”) and is expected to be featured on Kanye West’s upcoming album Yandhi.
X, who was shot and killed in an apparent robbery in June, had reportedly recorded “a significant amount of material” for a third album, which is slated for release this fall. Four men have been arrested and charged in connection with his murder.
