Tekashi 6ix9ine’s sentencing hearing is taking place today and the rapper will see more time behind bars. Judge Paul Engelmayer sentenced the rapper to two years behind bars with an additional five years of supervised release.
The rapper appeared in court today and according to Inner City Press, the hearing involved statements from 6ix9ine’s lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, a victim of acts caused by the gang Tekashi 6ix9ine claimed along with a personal statement from 6ix9ine.
The end result was Judge Paul Englmayer acknowledging his cooperation with federal authorities and the 13 months already served, but more time behind bars.
“Mr. Hernandez, I’ve given it a lot of close thought, including your cooperation. The following are my thoughts, & this is going to take a little while,” Engelmayer said according to Inner City Press. “You are in custody for 13 months. I agree you deserve a great deal of credit for cooperation.”
Judge Englemayer would commend the work 6ix9ine did to assist the government, citing he met with federal authorities 26 times.
“However, I cannot agree with your counsel that time served it appropriate. In my judgment, your conduct is too violent and selfish to make 13 months reasonable. You will not be going free today,” he added.
Judge Engelmayer would go on to detail acts against Trippie Redd, attacks on Rap-A-Lot record members, Casanova, Chief Keef, shootings in Times Square, and other gang activities that went into his decision.
