Tee Grizzley has been pretty quiet ever since his aunt was gunned down in his hometown, Detroit. He recently shed more light on the moments leading up to the tragic death of Jobina “JB” Brown on sit-down with Bigg Dawg Blast.
The “Satish” rapper explained that the shooting happened after a studio session and they went to go visit his cousin. JB opted to stay inside of the car because the house wasn’t clean to her.
“I’m begging her to come in the house,” he recalled. “… So I’m telling her to come in the house, but she like ‘No.’ JB was kind of funny acting about dirty houses and stuff like that. The house wasn’t even dirty, but to her, she’s just a real, real clean person.”
JB wasn’t with it and stayed inside of the car. So Grizzley proceeded to go to the house without her, and heard gun shots the moment someone finally came to the door.
“So I get down ’cause I’m thinking they about to come to the side and start shooting at me, and I didn’t have [weapons] on me at the time,” he said. “… So my cousin ran out with a gun or whatever and we ran out to the front to see what’s goin’ on … Once we got in the front, [I see] my driver’s gone.”
At the moment, Tee wasn’t worried about his aunt or the driver because there wasn’t any clear indication that the car was hit. But he quickly got upset because the driver left him at his cousin’s house after hearing the gun shots. “So now I’m mad now,” Tee recalled. “Like, ‘Y’all heard them shots, why would y’all leave me over here? You could’ve called me and told me…’ But my driver ended up calling me and telling me what happened.”
The driver claims someone came up to the door “trying to get at” Tee. His aunt was shot eight times, but she didn’t die immediately. She even called Tee Grizzley on her way to the hospital. “I was tryin’ to talk to her [but] I ain’t hear what she was saying. She couldn’t really form… words,” he said. “But n***as were coming for me because they opened my door.”
JB died at the hospital shortly after. He says he doesn’t know who’s responsible but “everybody was a suspect.” He revealed that he considered taking revenge but ultimately left the case in the authorities hands.
The Detroit emcee sadly revealed that his family blames him for her death. “They feel like it should’ve been me. And it should’ve been, because it was for me,” he explained.
JB has been in Tee Grizzley’s life since he was about 11 or 12 years old. He grew a tight bond with his aunt because she was the only family member who supported his rap career after his 2016 release from prison. “A lot of ’em just wouldn’t take me serious. [They were] like, ‘You better go get a job. What you tryin’ to rap for?’ and all this other stuff,” he said. “She believed in me. She was the only one … She quit her job to start managing me … She was the only one I could trust for real.”
