A report from The New York Post has confirmed that an active shooter at Bridgewater College in Virginia was shot and killed after killing two campus police officers.

Campus police officer John Painter and campus safety officer JJ Jefferson were shot by the suspect about 1:20 PM EST after they responded to several calls about a suspicious person on the campus. 27-year-old Alexander Wyatt Campbell of Ashland, Virginia instantly fired upon the officers as soon as he came in contact with them. He was later apprehended by police in the town of Bridgewater. It has not been confirmed as to whether or not he was even a student of the college.

Campbell has been hit with four charges, all felonies, including two counts of capital murder. He is currently being held without bond.

Pharrell Williams May Not Continue ‘Something In The Water’ Festival

Pharrell to Launch His Own Skincare Line

It seems as though Pharrell Williams will not be returning his Something In the Water festival to his hometown in Virginia Beach for the year 2022. The festival, which started in 2019, was a cultural experience at the Oceanfront of VA beach for attendees to listen to their industry favorites.

Williams shared a letter to the city’s manager, Patrick Duhaney explaining his decision to pull the festival from continuing in the future due to the city’s lack of justice in the death of his 25-year-old cousin, Donovon Lynch.

“When we did the festival, it was to ease racial tension, to unify the region, bring about economic development opportunities and broaden the horizons of local businesses,” Williams stated in the letter.  “We’ve achieved those things! I wish the same energy I’ve felt from Virginia Beach leadership upon losing the festival would have been similarly channeled following the loss of my relative’s life.”

“The toxic energy that changed the narrative several times around the homicide of my cousin, Donovan Lynch, a citizen of Virginia, is the same toxic energy that changed the narrative around the mass murder and senseless loss of life at building number 2,” he continued.

In September, Virginia Beach mayor Bobby Dyer stated that he wanted to talk things out with the mega-producer. “The manager and I want to connect with Pharrell, sit down, talk things out and that’s what we’re going to take. We are going to try to be positive about this and we are going to try to make a case that, you know, we are moving forward,” he stated.

Judging by Williams’ decision to pull the festival, the city of VA Beach may have more work to do. Check out the letter below.

Meek Mill’s Reform Alliance Helps Pass New Probation Law In Virginia

Screen Shot 2021 06 11 at 12.53.36 AM

Ever since his own release, Meek Mill and his Reform Alliance have been proactive in helping those individuals who are incarcerated gain basic, deserved rights despite their predicament. Yesterday in Richmond, Virginia, Meek and his Reform team went to meet with Governor Ralph Northam to sign legislation that will positively change probation laws in that state.

“I’m in position to do better and I know people that are 100 times worse situations than me that I had no connection to and met in prison along the way,” Meek said of his own personal journey. “With y’all support, I’ll continue to do better than I started. I got my deal in 2012 and I was able to feed my family and provide jobs.”

“Of course, I’m not perfect but being in situations like this will make me become better and speed up the process. I’ll make sure I’ll be able to deliver and close every bridge I can to help fix the system because I was affected by that.”

Northam signed the House 2038 Bill, which “limits the amount of active incarceration a court can impose as a result of a revocation hearing for a probation violation.” Now, the maximum amount of time a person can serve on a probation violation in Virginia is five years.

“Justice must be fair, it must be equitable and punishment must meet the crime,” Governor Northam said at the bill signing.

If you are talking Coke Rap then you have to put respect on the Clipse. But to hear their former colleague tell it most of their classic bars come from his life.

As spotted on HipHopDX we are getting an inside look of how one of the greatest Rap groups came to be. In a recent interview with your culture vulture’s favorite culture vulture, DJ Vlad interviewed their former manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez. In a newly released clip, the Virginia native reminisces back to the crew’s formative years. After explaining that it took close to a year to break “Grindin’” he touched on their signature approach to rhyming.

Gonzalez confirms that 95% of their raps were based on his lifestyle. “They never had to ask me about no idea off of what they have seen,” he admitted. “But, I remember a couple of times it was a rap back in the day and me and him were sitting there talking and I said to him, I made a statement, for every car I got add nine O’s.”

Geezy would go on to elaborate on how Pusha T and Malice borrowed from his career on the streets. “It was me just talking in general when I said that and he looked at me but he ain’t say nothing. Then I heard him say it in a rhyme, ‘For every car I got add nine O’s.’ When I heard it, I was like, man I said that to him. He was good when it came to that type of stuff.”

Something In The Water Was The Outdoor Festival Not To Miss [Photos]

Something In The Water Music Festival

The city of Virginia Beach in the Commonwealth of Virginia is probably still recovering from a music-packed weekend after the conclusion of the Something In The Water music festival. Pharrell Williams and a bevy of his famous friends hit up the oceanside venue and gave the thousands of fans in attendance a memory they won’t soon shake.

The music festival and accompanying lecture series was an ambitious venture for Skateboard P, using all of his resources and connections as a hometown hero at his disposal.

With shuttle service, designated parking venues and buses giving attendees an easy in and out to the events, the organizers should be proud of their efforts. However, day one of the festival was rained out and canceled due to heavy storms in the region on Friday. That means fans coming to see Radiant Children, Masego, The Dave Matthews Band, Migos, Janelle Monae and part one of Pharrell and Friends were let down.

Day two of Something In The Water was a reversal weatherwise with breezy conditions and plenty of sunshine. Beforehand, we took in Timberland’s stellar Nature Needs Heroes installation, checked out the Sony stage, and made our way to the main stage. SZA, J Balvin, Kaytranada, Ferg, and Travis Scott were all on the packed bill.

Giving all due respect to the performers that came rocked the main stages on Saturday, a crowd-pleasing highlight was Pharrell Williams’ closing set with a star-studded cast of fan favorites such as Snoop Dogg, area natives Missy Elliott and Timberland, Magoo, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Usher, and a scene-stealing moment featuring Jay-Z who was fresh off his own big concert just days prior.

Sunday’s show also competed with the pop-up Sunday Service with Kirk Franklin, Ty Tribbett and many other Gospel faves in tow.  Keeping the hometown flavor alive, Chris Brown, Pusha T, and D.R.A.M. gave crowd-pleasing sets ahead of Charlie Wilson tearing it down. Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals ended day two of the festival with a hit-packed and energetic set that fans of the West Coast singer have come to expect. There were some unexpected flash showers that cleared the area somewhat but devoted fans endured and were rewarded.

Madison’s Trust Elementary School (not pictured above) has issued an apology after third grade students were reportedly asked to pose as runaway slaves for gym. According to reports, about 10 families complained following the “lesson.”

“A Virginia elementary school apologized after criticism over a Black History Month lesson that instructed children to pose as runaway slaves,” the NY Post states. “The principal at Madison’s Trust Elementary School acknowledged the mistake after parents complained when teachers modeled a gym exercise after the Underground Railroad.”

Following the backlash, Principal David Stewart says the school will form an “equity/culturally responsive team,” adding “The lesson was culturally insensitive to our students and families. I extend my sincerest apology to our students and school community.”

A white Lousiana man who shot and killed his girlfriend, his parents, and his girlfriend’s father and brother, went on the run and was arrested Sunday morning (Jan. 27). Dakota Theriot, 21, was found in Richmond County, Va., and reportedly aimed his weapon at police before he was taken in.

CNN reports:

The deputies had been called to the home of a member of Dakota Theriot’s family to check on the residence when Theriot pulled up in a vehicle with a gun pointed out the window, Smith said.

The deputies sought cover and Theriot dropped the weapon on their commands. He was then arrested.
“He seemed a little tired, a little worn,” Smith told CNN.

Theriot, 21, arrived at the Virginia property after a night on the run. He’s accused of killing his parents, his girlfriend, and her father and brother in two separate shootings Saturday in Louisiana.

Virginia police were alerted to Theriot’s crime after his father called authorities and informed them that his son shot him and his wife. Theriot was reportedly living with Summer Ernest, his girlfriend, who resided 30 miles away from the Theriot home. According to the account, Theriot was asked to leave the Ernest home recently.
