Rapper Arrested After Bragging About Committing Unemployment Fraud In Song

Fontrell Antonio Baines

Since the pandemic hit back in March, millions of Americans have filed for unemployment. However, many people took advantage of the system and ran unemployment scams resulting in states like California to temporarily block people from being able to certify for their benefits. This man might have something to do with that.

Fontrell Antonio Baines, 31, who goes by the stage name “Nuke Bizzle” was arrested after applying for $1.2 million in unemployment benefits using stolen identities to take advantage of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance provision under the CARES Act.

Baines, who is originally from Memphis, but resides in Hollywood Hills, “possessed and used debit cards pre-loaded with unemployment benefits administered by the California Employment Development Department (EDD),” according to a statement by the Department of Justice. “The debit cards were issued in the names of third-parties, including identity theft victims. The applications for these debit cards listed addresses to which Baines had access in Beverly Hills and Koreatown.”

Baines had gained access to 92 EDD cards with $1.2 million and accessed $704,000 of unemployment benefits through cash withdrawal. If you thought Baines was smart enough to keep his unemployment scam on the low, then think again. He decided to brag about his crimes in a music video for his song “EDD.”

In the music video, Baines held up stacks of money and unemployment letters. The other artist featured on the song even raps “You gotta sell cocaine, I just file a claim.”

Baines was arrested in Las Vegas and found with eight EDD cards with other peoples name on them. He now faces federal fraud charges and if found guilty, faces 22 years in prison.

Donald Trump Signs Off on $400 Unemployment Benefits, Payroll Tax Holiday, and Eviction Protection in Executive Order

Donald Trump Signs Off on $400 Unemployment Benefits, Payroll Tax Holiday, and Eviction Protection in Executive Order

Donald Trump previously announced that he was going to wait until Friday to take executive action for stimulus benefits. But he marches to the beat of his own drum and signed the order over the weekend.

“We will take care of pretty much this entire situation,” Trump declared at a press conference in Bedminster, NJ.

States will be allowed to allocate money from their coronavirus relief funds to add $400 to the federal unemployment extension. Additionally, a payroll tax holiday and eviction protections will be provided.

Trump blamed the delay on the executive order on his Democratic opponents. “Many of the far-left policies have nothing to do with what we have been working on so hard,” he said.

POTUS claims the Democrats weren’t concerned with unemployment or the coronavirus. Instead, they were fighting against voter suppression by requesting a ban in voter identification and pushing mandatory mail-in balloting and voter harvesting.

“They want to push this radical left policies,” Trump said. “This is Nancy Pelosi, Crazy Nancy and Chuck Schumer. I honestly think they don’t love our country.”

The eviction protections will “work with landlords and lenders to keep people safely in their homes,” Trump said. Trump said the executive order will be “directing the Department of Housing and Urban Development, HHS and CDC, to make sure renters and homeowners can stay in their homes.“

The payroll tax relief holiday will allow employees to defer payments and go to Americans earning less than $100,00 per year. “If I’m victorious November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax and to make them more permanent,” Trump said.

The fourth executive orderis a “directive providing relief to student loan borrowers.” The policy will be extended through the end of the year. The fouth executive orderis a “directive providing relief to student loan borrowers.” The policy will be extended through the end of the year.

“So we’re going to be looking at income tax, we’re going to be looking at capital gains tax cuts, and maybe substantial. And we’ll be reporting back fairly shortly on that, it’s big news, big news but very important,” Trump added.

Unemployment looms

As the entire country wrestles with the new realities heaped upon all by way of the spread of the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19, jobless claims have swelled to record numbers. In the past week, it is reported that 3.3 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits as new uncertainties loom ahead.

On Thursday (March 26), the Labor Department shared in a press release that laid out the details of the swelling numbers. In short, these figures eclipse the Great Recession’s numbers of 665,000 in March 2009 and the all-time mark set in October 1982 of October 695,000.

The uptick in numbers is no doubt linked to the closures of businesses and retail establishments as officials across the country are following state-guided mandates in combating the spread of the virus. According to a report from The Washington Post, economist suggests that over 40 million Americans will be jobless by next month.

The publication added in its reporting that individuals out of work and seeking benefits are waiting hours on the phone to complete their application but those offices are slammed due to the record number of people nationwide seeking help.

In February, the unemployment rate stood at 3.5 percent, which has been touted as a win for the Trump administration. It is now more likely that the rate has jumped to 5.5. which would surpass President Barack Obama’s 4.7 percent average after he inherited a crumbling economy from President George W. Bush.

It should be noted that when Obama took office, the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent, thus marking the aforementioned Great Recession. Obama’s administration lowered the numbers significantly over the course of Obama’s two terms in office.
