Amazon Studios Buys Eddie Murphy's Coming to America 2 for $125 Million

Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America sequel will be streaming on Amazon Prime videos since movie theaters are closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paramount Pictures is reportedly in the process of selling the highly-anticipated movie to the rising streaming giant for $125 million. There are a few details of the deal being negotiated including an intricate direct-to-consumer marketing rollout with McDonald’s and whiskey brand, Crown Royal.

Murphy has to green light everything to finalize it.

Amazon Videos previously acquired Antebellum starring Janelle Monae and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show for the second year in a row.

Coming 2 America is reportedly a top priority for Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke, which means she understands how culturally important this movie is and the high expectations for it.

The movie is reportedly scheduled to stream on December 18th.

Tyler Perry Studios’ Set To Host “2019 Miss Universe Pageant”

Tyler Perry’s new 250 million Atlanta studio has been selected as the venue for The 2019 Miss Universe Pageant. Miss Universe is a yearly global beauty pageant that is controlled by the United States-based Miss Universe Organization. It airs in excess of 190 nations worldwide and seen average to attract over one billion viewers a year. The 330 acre, 12 stage facility is the home of his two new BET shows, The Oval and Sistas.

Steve Harvey is also signed on for his fifth season as the show’s host. The comedian is sure to collect a check, but let’s make sure he doesn’t mix up the winner’s name like he did before.

Tyler Perry is redefining what Black power means, shifting culture with one major move at a time. He retires the Madea house dress, and put on that mega millionaire tux in the back closet! We see you… We see you…

The 2019 Miss Universe Pageant is set to air live, December 8th at 7pm on Fox.

Black excellence is not only about setting the bar higher for our people but also setting the right example. Last week Tyler Perry did that in one fell swoop.

On Saturday, October 5 the acclaimed film director hosted a gala affair to celebrate the opening of his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The VIP event was attended by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Whoopi Goldberg and other big Hollywood names. As reported by TMZ Spike Lee was also a guest. The invitation came to many as a surprise as the two have traded their share of jabs at each other. In an interview with the celebrity gossip site the New Orleans native made it clear they have put their rocky past behind them.

“I don’t care if you got beef with somebody; it is what it is. The truth is you can not deny what he has done in the film industry. He’s been on the forefront to help me and everybody else to get to the place where we are” he explained. “You know Spike called me a few years ago. He came to my house in Atlanta and we sat down and we had a great conversation. I hope we as people start to come together”.

In the past Lee was very critical of the Madea film series calling it “coonery and buffoonery”. Naturally a small back and forth ensued. At the grand opening Perry revealed 12 sound stages and one was named after the Do The Right Thing creative as a testament to him.

Launch Date & Pricing Details For BET Networks & Tyler Perry Studios’ BET+ Streaming Service

BET+'s Launch Date & Subscription Price Revealed

There are plenty of streaming services for television watchers to choose from. Back in June, BET Networks and Tyler Perry studios unveiled BET+, and now we know when it will launch and how much it will cost.

BET+ is officially launching September 19 and will cost you a very reasonable $9.99 a month and promises to deliver to its subscribers over 1,000 hours of programming. As first reported, the service will feature a “curated” library of videos and new online-only scripted shows like the White House drama, The Oval, a seed of the partnership between Perry and BET.

Also coming to the streaming service is Perry’s extensive catalog of work, stand-up specials from Lil Rel, Nick Cannon and Sasheer Zamata plus original shows First Wives Club, Bigger and Sacrifice. If you need your reality television fix, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,  T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle and Basketball Wives will be on the service. Also coming to the service will be Comedy Central’s Why? With Hannibal Buress, MTV’s Todrick, Nick at Night’s Instant Mom and TV Land’s Soul Man.

Today, BET Networks announced the production of a new original movie SACRIFICE starring @PaulaPattonOfficial. In this legal thriller, Paula Patton will play Daniella Hernandez, a highly sought-after entertainment lawyer, who navigates the nefarious lives of her rich and famous clients. Joining Paula Patton is @theEricaAsh, who will play Beverly Nicole Rucker, a powerful district attorney and sorority sister of Daniella. @JuanAntonio will play Dominiq Mayfield aka Big Dom, a successful hip hop artist and mogul. @VBozeman, will play Tamika Bland, Daniella’s loyal and resourceful assistant. Altonio Jackson (@aceb47), will play Steven Somwon, an ex-hacker. Nelson Bonilla will play Miguel, Daniella's trusted driver and fatherly figure. Michael Toland (@mymtmind) will portray Arnold Lang, the founding partner of Daniella's firm, Lang & Associates. @JamesTrevenaBrown will play Joshua Lang, Arnold Lang’s son and next in line to make partner at the company. @MarquesHouston who serves as the film’s co-executive producer for Footage Films, will play Jason Pratt. A young Assistant District Attorney who knows the law better than anyone and does everything by the book. SACRIFICE is executive produced, written, and directed by @ChrisStokes1969 and will premiere on BET’s new streaming service BET+ in 2020.
