Today in Hip-Hop History: Tupac Shakur Dies After Being Gunned Down on Las Vegas Strip 28 Years Ago

Cultural icon Tupac Shakur was then taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada hospital after being shot several times in a drive-by on a Las Vegas strip on September 7, 1996, and was under a medically induced coma for six days before dying from internal bleeding on September 13, 1996.

After several failed attempts by doctors to revive 2Pac, his mother Afeni Shakur requested for his life support machine to be turned off. What were the events that transpired the days before the September 7th shooting that caused his early demise and why has the mystery of his death never been solved? These are the questions that remain 28 years later. Chris Carroll, a retired Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department sergeant, told Vegas Seven Magazine in an interview last year that we may never know;

“Shakur’s murder is still considered an unsolved homicide and an unsolved homicide case is technically never closed. But nothing more is ever going to happen with it.”

After all the documentaries that have been put out pertaining to Pac’s death, most fans attempt to put the clues together and create their own hypothesis yet without hard evidence it’s still just an educated guess as to what really happened the night of September 7, 1996.

The only real evidence police had until last year was the witness account from Outlaw member E.D.I Mean, who claimed to have seen all four men in the vehicle and Yaki Kadafi, who was involved in a scuffle with officers two days following the shooting after they pulled over a driver he was with and he protested. Officers did not try to locate Kadafi, who was later gunned down in Irving, NJ two months after the shooting.

Compton investigators assembled mug shots of several gang members, which included Orlando Anderson, the Crip that Tupac attacked in the MGM Grand lobby hours before the shooting. Anderson is the suspect said to have fired the fatal shots that killed Pac. Las Vegas police later discounted Anderson as a suspect and interviewed him only once. He was later killed in an unrelated gang shooting.

Last year, it was revealed that Duane “Keefe D” Davis will face charges related to the death of Tupac Shakur after years of claiming he was directly involved, but avoided prosecution with a immunity deal. It seems 2023 was the expiration date of that said deal. Davis is currently behind bars while going to trial for the murder of Shakur and was given a $750K bond to released during trial, but he has yet to make bail despite being offered the money because the judge has yet to approve the financial arrangement.

Tupac Murder Suspect Keefe D Granted $750K Bail

Several news reports have confirmed that the man Las Vegas Police say is responsible for the shooting death of the late cultural icon Tupac Shakur has been granted bail and is able to walk out of jail until his criminal trial.

Attorneys for Duane “Keefe D” Davis were able to convince a judge at a court hearing on Tuesday that Davis was not a danger to society or a flight risk if he were released on bail until his trial. Davis, 60, was first indicted for the death of Shakur this past September and has remined behind bars ever since.

Davis has bragged via interviews that he was in the car that let off the shots that killed Shakur while riding in the passenger seat of Suge Knight’s BMW following the Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon fight at the MGM Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. Even though Davis was admittedly not the trigger man, he is the only survivor from 27 years ago that prosecutors are able to charge for the murder.

Davis’ lawyers argued that if he was so dangerous, why did it take authorities almost 30 years to bring him in, even though it has been wel documented that Davis was present in the car that killed ‘Pac in a drive-by shooting. The lawyers also held fast to the not guilty plea, saying he only said all that stuff about Pac’s murder for entertainment/monetary gain, but prosecutors pushed back, arguing this guy was a cold-blooded killer and absolutely should not be out on the streets.

Davis’ $750K bail isn’t a small amount and unless Davis can get someone tp post that type of bread, he will remain behind bars until the trial. If he is released, he will be ordered to wear an ankle monitor while on home confinement.

Las Vegas Police Issued Search Warrant On Keefe D’s Home In Connection To Tupac’s Murder

Screen Shot 2023 07 19 at 3.39.50 PM

It was previously reported that a search warrant was served in Las Vegas concerning Tupac’s 1996 murder; however, it has now been revealed that the home belongs to reputed Crip gang member Keefe D.

According to the police, “LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation. We will have no further comment at this time.”

After it was revealed that the search warrant was executed in Henderson, NV, authorities informed VladTV that the home in question belonged to Keefe D, aka Duane Keith Davis, a reputed member of the Southside Compton Crips.

Davis is the last surviving passenger in the vehicle that was confirmed to fire the fatal shots that killed Tupac Shakur at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Vegas on September 7, 1996. His nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, is believed to be the shooter, but a reported proffer agreement has protected Davis from prosecution for years. With this new development, some changes may have occurred in that said agreement.

TheSource.com will update this story as details develop.

Screen Shot 2022 04 19 at 10.00.11 AM

On the Bomb1st podcast, Former Death Row muscle Reggie Wright Jr. added more to the rumor mill about the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, saying that the last man alive in the car which fired the fatal shots that killed Shakur will be charged with the decades-old crime this year.

Wright says that the Las Vegas Police Department has been ramping up their investigation into the Shakur murder and that Keefe D, the most talkative witness in the Tupac murder investigation, has had a nervous last couple of weeks.

“Let’s put it this way, I bet Keefe D [has] been having the runs for the last two weeks,” Wright said. “Because yeah, they are knocking on doors and there’s some activity.” Wright even made a challenge out of the rumors and urged viewers to predict the date in which Keefe D will be arrested this year while promising a prize to whoever predicts the correct date.
