‘The Batman’ Director Matt Reeves Says The Film Won’t Be An Origin Story

While we skeptically await the release of Matt Reeve’s Batman reboot starring Twilight star Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader (he would’ve made a better Robin in our humble opinion), some good news has come out around the film’s mysterious story as it’s been confirmed that the reboot will not be another origin story. Thank goodness!

In an in-depth interview with the Nerdist, Matt Reeves threw cold water on the rumors that the latest theatrical reboot of the Batman franchise would be a third origin story. At least not in the the typical sense. Instead of once again burning time by showing scenes of a young Bruce Wayne watching his parents murdered before his eyes (we all know this all too well), Reeves will simply acknowledge it happened and focus on a young Batman dealing with his own humanity.

“I wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is. Like this guy, he’s majorly struggling, and this is how he’s trying to rise above that struggle,” Reeves explained. “But that doesn’t mean that he even fully understands, you know. It’s that whole idea of the shadow self and what’s driving you, and how much of that you can incorporate, and how much of it you’re doing that you’re unaware of.”

We’re not mad at that.

Still, Reeves doesn’t give much on what the story is or why The Penguin is a slim Colin Farrell.

Some more good (and bad) news is that this Batman is set in modern times, so Bruce Wayne might have social media while Batman might have fan pages on Instagram. Unfortunately that also means that Joaquin Phoenix’s amazing iteration of The Joker cannot possibly exist in this Gotham City as his character rose to power in the 80’s. Knowing that this film’s villains will be The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman leaves room for yet another Joker to take on this Batman in the future. Question is, can any actor rival the latest Clown Prince of Crime that Joaquin won an Oscar for?

Still, we’ll be there ready to praise or criticize every aspect of this film when it releases in the summer of 2021.

‘The Batman’ Director Matt Reeves Previews The New (Old?) Batmobile

The Batman Batmobile

Source: Matt Reeves / Twitter/@mattreevesLA

Little by little The Batman director Matt Reeves has been giving comic book fans sneak peaks into his highly anticipated Batman reboot and after showing us how Robert Pattison looks in a cape and cowl, the director has previewed what the caped crusader would be pushing around Gotham City. Hint, it’s a throwback.

While Christian Bale and Ben Affleck were pushing military grade machinery in their respective Batman flicks, it seems like the Twilight star will be conjuring up the spirit of Adam West and rolling in something similar to the ’55 Lincoln Futura made famous in the classic 60’s Batman television series.

Taking to Twitter to preview the new/old car, Matt Reeves and got both praise and criticism for his decision to use, well, an actual car for the Batmobile.

While some fans appreciated the retro flavor that Reeves seems to be aiming for, others were upset that he didn’t give his caped crusader a more futuristic or even technologically advanced looking automobile to fight crime in. But fans should know that the new/old Batmobile will of course be equipped with all sorts of clever and innovative gadgets that’ll help Batman take down The Penguin (Colin Farrell) and impress Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) at the same time, so be easy, y’all.

The only thing fans should worry about is how well the script will be because if we’ve learned anything from Batman V. Superman and Justice League it’s that a horrible screenplay can lead to disastrous results on the silver screen.

Robert Pattinson As ‘The Batman’ Revealed [Video]

The DC Universe has moved on from Ben Affleck as the Batman. But Twilight actor Robert Pattinson will take up the cowl, and he at least has the jaw for the gig.

In a quick video, The Batman director Matt Reeves shared online, we get a first look of what Pattinson look like as The Dark Knight. The “camera test” starts out all black with ominous music as Batman is slowly revealed—coming into focus with red overtones—before going black again.

The score is courtesy of composer Michael Giacchino and sets the tone of a Batman ready to fade some villains. The Batman’s logo is wide across the upper chest while it looks like the cape has a collar. This doesn’t look like Zero Year or Year 1 Batman but a Dark Knight who has been through some battles.

We’ll have to wait a while for the flick, The Batman isn’t due out until June 25, 2021. Watch the 45-second clip below.

Let us know what you think of the new Batman in the comics.

Colin Ferrell In Talks To Play The Penguin In Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’

"Seven Psychopaths" Premiere - 2012 Toronto International Film Festival

A few months ago it was reported that funny man Jonah Hill was in negotiations to play the villain in the highly anticipated Robert Pattinson starring The Batman, but things fell apart and he’s since moved on to other projects.

Now a few weeks after it was confirmed that Zoe Kravitz would be playing the highly coveted role of Catwoman and Paul Dino would be taking on The Riddler in the Matt Reeves directed film, Deadline is now reporting that Colin Farrell is in talks to become The Penguin in the upcoming Batman reboot.

The one time “It” actor is no stranger to blockbuster films as he’s starred in his fair share of them such as Minority Report, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and the lackluster Alexander (that joint set his stardom back like a MF), so though he’s in negotiations to take on the role, we’re confidant he won’t pass this up.

It will be interesting to see if he actually gains weight for the role (The Penguin ain’t no heartthrob) or if he’ll put on a fat bodysuit and enrage the citizens of plus sized America like the Russo brothers did when they introduced “thick” Thor in Avengers: Endgame.

Zoe Kravitz Will Play Catwoman In ‘The Batman’, Twitter Approves Decision

Zoe Kravitz Will Play Catwoman In 'The Batman' Twitter Approves

The role of Catwoman in the upcoming Matt Reeve’s directed film, The Batman, has been filled. No, it’s not Rihanna who will be cracking the whip, but instead, Zoe Kravitz and Twitter are excited about the casting.

When it comes to casting roles for these comic book films, fans can be very particular about who will play their favorite heroes and villains. Variety broke the news today (Oct. 14) that Kravitz will be rocking the catsuit, taking on the role of Batman’s off and on love interest and thief, Selina Kyle.

Per Variety:

Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman, the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.”

Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.

When it was first revealed the Catwoman was going to be in the film, many fans lobbied for Rihanna or Nicki Minaj to play the iconic antiheroine in the forthcoming movie. The idea of Rihanna walking around in a catsuit driving Batman and us viewers crazy is not a bad one. We also are excited they don’t have the final say on casting.

Kravitz taking on the role of Catwoman is being well received, unlike when it was announced that Pattinson would be next to rock the cape and cowl. Besides, it won’t be her first time either, she lent her voice to the character in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie.

The Batman just got more interesting if you ask us, you can hit the gallery below to see all the reactions to Zoe Kravitz’s casting as Catwoman.

Vampire Edward aka Robert Pattinson Is The New Batman

HFPA & Participant Media Honour Help Refugees' Arrivals - The 72nd Annual Cannes Film Festival

Source: George Pimentel / Getty

It’s official. Twilight actor Robert Pattinson has been confirmed to portray Batman in the forthcoming The Batman film.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has come to terms with Pattinson portraying the Dark Knight.

The man probably best known for playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight series will don the cowl for at least three films, with the first to be released next year and directed by Matt Reeves.

Reportedly the role came down to Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult, but Reeves preferred the former.

The spot became available after Ben Affleck fell back from directing The Batman and decided to end his portrayal of Batman. To his credit, he did an admirable job in Batman vs Superman and Justice League—and a cameo in Suicide Squad—despite the suspect scripts.

Considering Pattinson will be a younger Batman, this sounds like a reboot. Good luck with that, just saying.
