Charlamagne tha God and Bishop T.D. Jakes Talk About Mental Health

Words by: Rashad Grove

Charlamagne tha God seems the be everywhere these days. The media personality is not only a co-host of “The most dangerous morning show,” The Breakfast Club with DJ Envy and Angela Yee but he is also a New York Times best-selling author. His first book, Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It, was a runaway success.  Now Charlagmagne is back on the scene promoting his new book Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks On Me. He even got the chance to sat down with Bishop T.D. Jakes of the Potter’s House to have a conversation about the importance of mental health in the Black community and how we can break the stigma in communities of color.

While the two may seem like an odd pairing, they have interacted on numerous occasions. Giving a glowing review of the book, Bishop T.D. said: “I’ve never read a book where the author was so transparent.” Speaking to how he became more vulnerable about his own struggles, Charlamagne responded, “I think going to therapy the past couple years has made me vulnerable, or maybe it’s not even therapy, maybe it’s the fact of turning 40 this year, being the father of 3 young girls, being married, life has made me more vulnerable.”
