The-Dream Calls Sexual Abuse Allegations ‘Untrue and Defamatory’

The-Dream has issued a response to allegations of sexual abuse in a lawsuit filed in California federal court. The-Dream, born Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, issued the following statement:

“These claims are untrue and defamatory. I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”

According to TMZ, The-Dream is accused of sexual battery, abuse, and trafficking of his former protégé.

The Dream is being sued by Chanaaz Mangroe, citing the artist coerced her into a relationship by promising a singing career and received “violent sexual acts and vicious psychological torture.”

Mangroe stated her work visa was extended by The-Dream in 2014 to develop her career. She was a native of The Netherlands. During her stay, Mangroe stated she was subject to a year-plus of a very abusive, violent, and manipulative relationship.

In addition, Mangroe stated she was left naked and alone for hours in a dark room where she was subject to violent sex and was also “frequently strangled,” nearly losing consciousness on several occasions.

Additionally, Mangroe states some of the sexual acts are recorded and were used as a means to keep her silent. On the music end, she never saw a result of her work and was never paid.

“Ultimately, my silence has become too painful, and I realized that I need to tell my story to heal,” Mangroe says. “I hope that doing so will also help others and prevent future horrific abuse.”

R. Kelly Brothers Detail Childhood Sexual Abuse and How Their Mother Took $5K to Not Talk About it in Court

Lifetime premiered the Surviving R. Kelly 2 and it opened with the brothers of R. Kelly talking about some of the ills that have haunted their famous sibling. They spoke about two people a man and a woman that sexually abused their brother.

They recounted the story when Robert shared with his mother that this man was abusing him, and how she called the police. While the police were on their way, the neighborhood guys beat up the man.

According to his younger brother, even the police once they arrived, allowed the guys from around their way to beat him to a pulp. After he was jailed and the trial came up something bizarre happened.

In an act to humanize him and almost an effort to make people feel sorry for him, his brothers also detail that their mother took $5,000 to not show up to court to procesvute the man that abused her son.

More to come.

Dumb Dumb Diddy: R. Kelly Blames Inability To Read On Losing Sexual Abuse Case

R. Kelly Back In Court For Aggravated Sexual Abuse Charges

Source: Nuccio DiNuzzo / Getty

R. Kelly has become something of a struggle savant in the wake of the explosive Lifetime docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly. After recently losing a sexual abuse civil case, the singer’s legal team says his inability to read sunk his defense.

TMZ reports:

Kelly’s attorneys, Zaid Abdallah and Raed Shalabi, filed legal docs claiming even though Kelly was served in the civil case — in which Heather Williams alleges he sexually abused her when she was 16 — he was in Cook County Jail at the time for failing to pay child support and should not have been served there.

More significantly, though, according to the docs … Kelly “suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read,” adding … “in essence he cannot.”

Translation — Kelly had no idea what the legal papers were all about, so he didn’t take the appropriate steps after being served to defend himself.

The new legal docs also blast the fact Kelly was served while incarcerated, claiming Williams’ lawyers could have easily served Kelly’s criminal lawyer or delivered the docs to Trump Towers where he lives. Williams’ lawyer has said security at his residence made that impossible, but Kelly’s attorney calls BS on that.

Instead of lounging in front of his Trump-owned residence, maybe Kelly should invest in some tutoring.

Dee Barnes Asked About Dr. Dre Sexually Abusing Her, Dodges Question

'Hip-Hop: A Cultural Odyssey' Luxury Book Launch And Exhibit Premiere

Source: Paul Archuleta / Getty

Dee Barnes has never shied away from speaking about the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of Dr. Dre, but she decided to be mum when asked to elaborate on another violent incident. The veteran journalist was a guest on The Wendy Williams Show with the host asking if the producer and mogul ever sexually assaulted, with Barnes electing to dodge the question.

Page Six reports:

While recalling the now-infamous 1991 fight between her and Dre at a Def Jam Records party, Barnes described Dre following her into a bathroom while physically assaulting her. Williams then asked if Dre also sexually assaulted her.

Taking a long pause, a teary-eyed Barnes responded, “I’m not comfortable talking about everything right now.”

“Your silence is speaking volumes,” a shocked Williams responded. “Dammit, man.”

Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, was charged with assault and battery after Barnes pressed charges. He pleaded no contest.

He was fined $2,500 and sentenced to two years probation and community service. She also filed a $22 million lawsuit against Dre, which was settled out of court in 1993.

Barnes recently revealed she became homeless after freelance gigs began to fizzle, and she’s since launched a GoFundMe to secure housing for her and her daughters.

Woman Who Paid R.Kelly’s Bail Now Receiving Bomb Threats

R. Kelly In Concert - Brooklyn, New York

Source: Mike Pont / Getty

The R. Kelly story gets crazier and crazier by the week. His friend who put the money up to get him released from jail now has a bulls eye on her head.

According to TMZ, Valencia P. Love is feeling the heat for vouching for the pied pier of pee-pee. Last week the childcare entrepreneur says that she received multiple bomb threats to her daycare. WBBM reports that police took the matter very seriously and did a thorough sweep of the facility to ensure there were no explosives onsite. The Chicago Police Department has confirmed they do not have any suspects but will continue to investigate the crime.

This is not the first time intimidation tactics have been issued in the wake of Surviving R. Kelly. In December media personality Angela Yee was set to host a screening for the documentary series at the NeueHouse Madison Square building in Manhattan. On the panel were several sexual abuse survivors and advocates. Minutes into the screening NYPD asked everyone to evacuate after receiving a threat; it is still unclear whether it was related to a gun or a bomb.

On February 22, the “Ignition” singer turned himself to police after being indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse—a class 2 felony—involving four alleged victims. He is now free on bail.

Drake’s Dad: R. Kelly And Jussie Smollett Are Friends Of Mine

Dennis Graham, father of actor/rapper Drake, made some startling comments about some of urban culture’s current, controversial personalities in an interview that is sure to put more pressure on his son to get his dad out of the spotlight.

Graham said in an exclusive interview with Variety Magazine that both disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly and fibbing Empire actor Jussie Smollett have his support. Kelly, who has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse and Smollett, who is charged with a filing a false police report have been getting slayed in the court of public opinion but the elder Graham says that he stands behind both men 100%.

As for Kelly, Graham says the singer is a good friend of his and, “I wish him the best. I hate that it’s happening to him. There’s a reason why women come out after the fact. He has my support 100%.”

With the situation with Smollett, Drake’s dad says, “Jussie has been misunderstood. As a matter of fact, they know that. That story that came out about Jussie in Chicago is not true about Jussie. Jussie is a friend of mine, also. They have totally reconstructed his story.”

‘Leaving Neverland’ Doc Examines Claims By 2 Alleged Sexual Abuse Victims Of Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson Live On Stage

Source: Dave Hogan / Getty

The late Michael Jackson spent a portion of his career being dogged by allegations of sexual abuse against minor children, and a new documentary examines the case of two men who claim to be victims. Leaving Neverland will make its debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

From Sundance.org:

As one of the world’s most celebrated icons, Michael Jackson represents many things to many people—a pop star, a humanitarian, a beloved idol. When allegations of sexual abuse by Jackson involving young boys surfaced in 1993, many found it hard to believe that the King of Pop could be guilty of such unspeakable acts. In separate but parallel stories that echo one another, two boys were each befriended by Jackson, who invited them into his singular and wondrous world. Seduced by the singer’s fairy-tale existence and enthralled by their relationship with him, both boys’ families were blind to the manipulation and abuse that he would ultimately subject them to.

Through gut-wrenching interviews with the now-adult men and their families, Leaving Neverland crafts a portrait of sustained exploitation and deception, documenting the power of celebrity that allowed a revered figure to infiltrate the lives of starstruck children and their parents.

The documentary will debut in the Special Events category.

The Sundance Film Festival kicks off on Jan. 24 in Utah.

dream hampton Speaks About The Horrors Of Making Surviving R. Kelly

In the last week, the six-part documentary Surviving R. Kelly aired on Lifetime. The investigative work examines the extensive abuse allegations against the three-time Grammy Award-winning singer. Kelly’s accusers are all women of color, many of whom were minors at the time. In the documentary, each goes into detail about the sexual misconduct and physical abuse they suffered from the onetime superstar. The work also addresses alleged sexual abuse that R. Kelly experienced during his childhood, which he referenced in his 2012 memoir.

dream hampton is an executive producer of Surviving R. Kelly. A former editor at The Source in the early 1990s, hampton also worked extensively on Decoded with JAY-Z, in addition to multiple film and television credits. Following the premiere of the documentary that gave Lifetime its highest ratings in nearly two years, dream hampton spoke to The Karen Hunter Show on Sirius XM.

Dame Dash Discusses The Rift R. Kelly Caused Between Him & JAY-Z Because Of Aaliyah

Speaking to the show by phone, hampton discussed what she learned through this work. “When I went into this project, I was clear that he was a predator and that he targeted young and vulnerable girls. I don’t think I knew he was an abuser, and I don’t mean to sound naive, but I just I didn’t think physical abuse was a part of his repertoire. I certainly didn’t know having to listen to a woman after woman talking about being denied food and movement. I mean we about to get into a couple of episodes where you’re going to hear testimony of girls talking about having, you know, they couldn’t leave the room unless he told them to and all of them didn’t have bathrooms in the room. So they [had to use] slop buckets. His runners would put slop buckets in the room…I don’t think I was prepared for his sadism.”

Some of the documentary’s most jarring accounts come from Sparkle. In the late 1990s, the singer also known as Stephanie Edwards was a protege of R. Kelly’s and released her gold-certified eponymous debut album through Robert’s Rockland imprint. In Surviving R. Kelly, Sparkle says that it was her then-14-year-old niece who appears in a leaked pornographic videotape alleged to be made by and involving R. Kelly. In 2008, during a trial against R. Kelly, Edwards testified, and added that she introduced the singer to her sister’s daughter. Another woman in the documentary, Lisa Van Allen, also alleges Kelly had sexual encounters with the 14-year-old. Van Allen says she was unaware of the girl’s age at that time. She claims to have learned later during a rare conversation at a time when the singer allegedly kept the pair separated without his presence.

On The Karen Hunter Show, dream hampton spoke about the significance of Sparkle’s appearance and testimony in the documentary. “I would say that Sparkle was a really big get, she’s not someone who’s spoken. She didn’t do the interviews that you’ve seen in Buzzfeed and other places. She hasn’t talked since she did that, you know, since she testified at [the 2008] trial and lost her career, you know, a lot of these kids don’t remember Sparkle.” hampton points to 1998’s “Be Careful,” a career launchpad for Sparkle, as it featured R. Kelly. “That video cost a couple hundred thousand dollars. So she was there, there was an investment in her. She was gonna be Faith Evans; she was gonna be whatever she was gonna be.” In Surviving R. Kelly, Sparkle recalls how detailed her mentor’s instructions were for the video, down to wardrobe. She also says that the song about an abused and heartbroken woman is troubling in retrospect, given that R. Kelly wrote them. “[Sparkle] gave it all up and she gave up her family. Her family didn’t talk to her for 10 years after she testified at that trial, members in her family.” Sparkle’s latest song, “W.A.R. (We Are Ready),” plays at the close of the doc.

hampton says she wished that Lady Gaga had participated in the documentary. In 2013, Gaga and R. Kelly collaborated for the female singer’s “Do What U Want.” The pair also performed the video single on SNL and at the American Music Awards. Terry Richardson, a photographer and video director who has been accused of sexual misconduct, directed the video. That work was eventually shelved. In Surviving R. Kelly, Chance The Rapper appears. He admits regret for working with the fellow Chicagoan on 2015’s “Somewhere In Paradise” collaboration with Jeremih.

While calling into Hunter’s show, dream also spoke about the legal challenges surrounding Surviving R. They own Lifetime, Bunim/Murray is a production company that’s been in business as long as it has because they have a team of lawyers. So, there are so many things that I can’t talk about, and will never talk about, and quite frankly, you don’t want to. It’s so dark and sad and traumatic. I wish that [R. Kelly] would have gotten help [early on].”

dream also addressed Aaliyah’s mother’s disapproval of the doc. “I mean, I can’t imagine [how she feels]. You know, you never get over losing a child and I’m not gonna comment on Aaliyah’s mom’s comment. I will say that I was incredibly mindful. You know, Aaliyah’s my homegirl. She’s from Detroit, you know? [I] knew her, you know, very not well, but I knew her and I didn’t want to spend, out of the two hours, we spent about 11 to 12 minutes on Aaliyah’s story.”
