O.T. Genasis Is Back With Another Gang Banger Themed Remake Song [Video]

O.T. Genasis is attempting to extend his hot streak with his unconventional approach to singing. He has added his own street flair to a Grammy nominated pop single.

As spotted on HipHopDX the Atlanta native has remixed Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”. The result is yet another gang banger influenced take on the piano driven tune that once captivated White American in 2002. As expected the lyrics are nothing nice. “When I meet you, I won’t miss you / I’ll put you under / ‘Cause you gon’ fall, from my 9 / I like walk-ups, I love drive-bys / ‘Cause you know I’ll hit you with my 9 / Yo momma won’t see you tonight.”

His delivery misses the mark when trying to hit the original notes but the “Cut It” rapper has clearly run out of F’s to give. Nevertheless he still brings the performance to life in a hilarious video that finds him at the piano while sporting a blue rag on his head. Even though it is clear he doesn’t know how to play the keys he takes the role quite serious.

This is not the first time the man born Odis Oliver Flores has attempted to bring the gap with his off key vocals. In late 2019 he turned Keyshia Cole’s “Love” into a Crip-tastic ballad about laying down his street rivals. While “Never Knew” became a viral sensation it was all to the dismay of Keyshia Cole who publicly panned his effort.

“My only concern—this is a genuine concern is that you know, I am trying to get my music where it used to be. I’m trying to find that passion for the music that I used to have so long ago when I was trying to get out of Oakland,” she explained. “So I would like my classics to be left alone. Is that wrong as an artist to say?”

Brown Skin Girls Across the World Helped Beyoncé Debut at No. 2 With ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

Music lovers everywhere have been rushing to theaters over the past week to hear Beyoncé as the voice of Nala in Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King. Based off the Billboard 200 charts this week, they must’ve also been heavily listening to her amazing voice on the companion album The Lion King: The Gift, as the project now proudly sits in the No. 2 position.

While there’s much on the album worth streaming — “OTHERSIDE” is just heavenly to be honest — we can’t help but think the success is in part due to all the beautiful Black & POC girls in the world currently making the curated LP’s standout cut “BROWN SKIN GIRL” go viral.

The album’s top 5 debut reflected the box-office success of the film itself, with The Lion King bringing in $963 million USD in its first two weeks of screening according to Variety. The Gift garnered 54,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., with 11,000 of those being pure album sales as reported by Billboard. Many have been quick to note that this is Bey’s third top 10 placement this year, with the Coachella-geared HOMECOMING: THE LIVE ALBUM reaching No. 4 and her 2016 magnum opus LEMONADE returning to No. 9 back in May. As The Gift is exactly that in its approach to honoring Afrobeat and African culture as a whole, we’re hoping to see way more success and eye-grabbing visuals arrive from this project.

Listen to The Lion King: The Gift, a companion album curated by Beyoncé for Disney’s remake of ‘The Lion King,’ on all streaming platforms. Watch the visually-astounding extended cut of “SPIRIT” and accompanying music video for “BIGGER” below if you haven’t seen it already:

A Short Film Shows A 2019 Version Of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (Video)

Next year, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air turns 30 years old. It’s been nearly three decades since Will Smith introduced America to a fictionalized version of himself, playing a West Philadelphia-native who gets relocated to Bel Air, California to stay out of trouble and live with his extended family. During the show’s six-season run, audiences laughed, cried, and fell in love with characters like Alfonso Ribeiro’s “Carlton Banks,” and James Avery as “Uncle Phil.” Although it is now 2019, the sitcom’s influence, humor, and style still bleed throughout most mass media. However, one fan-made film begs the question: If The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were to debut in today’s climate, how would that feel? Sun Squared Media steps up to the plate to answer, as writer, director, and cinematographer Morgan Cooper, along with actor Jerry Madison who plays “Will Smith,” re-imagines the sitcom as a gritty, mature comedy-drama simply titled Bel-Air. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s Vintage Freestyle Is An MC & DJ Hallmark (Audio) Cinematic music choice aside, this Bel-Air re-imagining captures a direction and tone similar to FX’ Atlanta. After a scuffle on the basketball court, “Will” gets caught with a gun by the local police, and is sent to live in Bel Air with his “Uncle Phil” to clean up and stay out of trouble. Viewers are given a glimpse of newness as “Will’s” character stands outside the mansion gates, coolly wearing a “What Would Meek Do?” hoodie. We’re introduced to all sorts of drama, showing scenes with “Carlton,” a supportive “Aunt Vivian,” and a slick “Jazz,” who meets our main character at a record store. Fan-made film or not, a gritty Bel-Air reboot might have something we’ve needed for a long time.
