The resurgence of Derrick Rose on the basketball court has been one of the NBA’s feel-good stories of the current season but was marred by the accusations of rape that hung over the player’s head. However, the case is finally done for good after an appeal made by the accuser was effectively shut down thus ending the matter.

The Blast reports:

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the appeals court ruled that the lower court verdict, which dismissed the case against the NBA star, will be affirmed.

Lawyers for Rose and his accuser battled it out before the court last month and the judges took a couple weeks to reach their decision.

The order states the lower court did not rule in error when allowing photos, texts, and testimony to be presented in court, despite Jane Doe’s argument none of it should have been shown.

They denied Rose’s attempt to sanction his accuser stating, “Although this Court affirms the district court’s evidentiary decisions and the judgment of the district court, it does not find that Doe’s attorneys brought a frivolous appeal.”

The matter stems from a 2013 case in where Jane Doe accused Rose and two of his friends of alleged gang rape. In 2016, a jury found that Rose and the men were not liable with all jurors voting unanimously in Rose’s favor.

Bill Cosby Ruined “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” Says Songwriter’s Daughter

The Oscar-winning Christmas-themed song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” was written in the 1940s at the time where gender politics were decidedly skewed in favor of men. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, radio stations across the U.S. and Canada are banning the song from their airwaves and the daughter of the composer is blaming Bill Cosby.

NBC News reports:

This is not sitting well with the daughter of Broadway legend Frank Loesser, who said she has heard complaints in the past about her dad’s ditty but blames Bill Cosby for turning it into something fiendish.

“Bill Cosby ruined it for everybody,” Susan Loesser told NBC News on Thursday. “Way before #Me Too, I would hear from time to time people call it a date rape song. I would get annoyed because it’s a song my father wrote for him and my mother to sing at parties. But ever since Cosby was accused of drugging women, I hear the date rape thing all the time.”

Cosby was convicted earlier this year of drugging and sexually assaulting one woman and has been accused of doing the same to dozens more. And the link between the song and disgraced actor was even reinforced in a memorable SNL skit — from 2015.

Loesser tells the outlet that she believes her father, who passed in 1969, would be angered at knowing his song was banned from being played. Further, she explained a curious line from the song, “what’s in this drink?,” was a joking phrase used at the time, not to notate a person was being drugged.

Russell Simmons lost a legal battle this week after he attempted to get a lawsuit thrown out of court in relation to a 1988 case where a woman says he allegedly raped her. The lawsuit will proceed as planned next month, and the business mogul will face his accuser in court.

The Blast reports:

On December 5, a Los Angeles judge ordered the lawsuit accusing Simmons of rape can continue on, despite the mogul’s attempts to have the case dismissed.

The judge has ordered Simmons to answer the allegations in the complaint within 20 days.

The order notes that Simmons’ argument that his accuser did not give a specific date of the alleged incident is irrelevant since “the elements of the three claims (forcible rape, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress) do not require a date of the incident.”

A hearing has been set for next month.

The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, says the incident took place after she attended a Def Jam concert with her son. According to the woman’s claims, Simmons allegedly threatened her and her son with rape if she didn’t carry out the act at a hotel after party. Simmons has denied carrying out the act and says the woman is seeking to extort him.

Bill Cosby Will Find Out if he Goes to Prison Today

Bill Cosby will have a last chance to present his defense to the court on Tuesday under the watchful eye of a Pennsylvania judge sentences him on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Montgomery County prosecutors asked a judge on Monday to condemn Cosby to five to 10 years in jail for the 2004 rape of Andrea Constand, saying he had indicated “no remorse” for his activities.

“He seemingly thinks that he hasn’t done anything wrong. The jury thinks otherwise,” District Attorney Kevin Steele said. “This is about a person who put himself in a situation of being a mentor, but we know he had other intentions just from the beginning,” he added.

Be that as it may, Cosby’s defense lawyer, Joseph P. Green, requested a sentence of house capture, refering to Cosby’s propelled age and visual deficiency.

“Mr. Cosby is not dangerous,” he said. “Eighty-one-year-old blind men who are not self-sufficient are not a danger, unless perhaps to themselves.”

Judge Steven T. O’Neill will issue the sentence on Tuesday after he chooses whether Cosby ought to be ordered a “sexually violent predator.” The assurance would require Cosby to enlist with state police and submit to sex-offender counseling and notification forever.

On the off chance that he should serve time, he could be arrested instantly after the judge articulates the sentence.

Cosby was sentenced April for three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and assaulting Constand at his home in 2004, in the first high-profile celebrity criminal trial of the #MeToo era.

In spite of the fact that the charges each convey a possible sentence of 10 years, Judge O’Neill reported that the charges had been converged into one since they all originate from a similar occasion. The state condemning rules show 22 to 36 months in jail, plus or minus 12 months because of aggravating or mitigating circumstances.

Monday’s hearing additionally highlighted victim impact statements from Constand, her folks and her sister. Constand, whose testimony at trial was fundamental to the argument against Cosby, represented only a couple of minutes in court.

“I have testified, I have given you my victim impact statement,” Constand said. “You heard me, the jury heard me and Mr. Cosby heard me. All I’m asking for is justice as the court sees fit.”

Drake Sues Woman Who Allegedly Falsely Claimed She Was Raped, Got Pregnant

Drake filed a lawsuit against a woman who claimed that the rapper got her pregnant. He insists that she’s trying to extort him and also made false rape allegations against him.

In the documents obtained by TMZ, Drizzy met Layla Lace last year during his Boy Meets World Tour in Manchester, England. He says they hooked up once after one of his shows in February 2017 and had consensual sex and “Layla also voluntarily and seemingly happily performed oral sex.”

In the claim, recorded by celeb legal counselor Larry Stein, Drake says Layla went ballistic when he sent her home as opposed to taking her on tour with him.

The claim contains various instant messages Layla sent Drake in the next weeks, saying how much she missed him amongst other things. Drake says she made a “fantasy relationship” with him and at a point, didn’t have the “time or energy to react” and he says that set her off.

In April 2017, she posted on Instagram and out of the blue asserted she was pregnant, saying, “So I guess still in this era this is the new thing that after you tell a dude you pregnant they stop answering they phone!!!” According to the claim, she threatened to go public with her messages to Drake. As promised, she went on Sirius XM and claimed the Canadian rapper got her pregnant

The suit proceeds to affirm in May 2017, Layla contracted a legal advisor and requested cash for her baby and threatened him with defamation because TMZ published a story saying they never met.

The suit claims Layla declined to take a paternity test and Layla and her attorney went radio quiet. Drake says the entire thing was a trick. “There is no credible evidence of pregnancy, nor any baby, which would have been born last Fall.”

As indicated by the claim, Layla tried to switch up the story and alleged that the Scorpion rapper raped her during their one night stand. Drake says by then Layla enlisted another attorney who requested cash or else they would make a public rape complaint.

As indicated by the suit, the case was alluded to Manchester police, who talked with him and at last cleared him.

Drake is suing her for civil extortion, emotional distress, fraud, defamation, and abuse of process.

He’s requesting unspecified damages.
