50 Cent Uses Michael K. Williams Death to Promote ‘Raising Kanan’ Show

The death of Michael K. Williams rocked the world on Labor Day. The late actor passed from a suspected drug overdose, according to the New York Post.

In their report, drug paraphernalia was found in the home of Williams, citing the possible use of heroin and fentanyl. 50 Cent would screenshot the report and share it online.

“Damn if you didn’t see Raising Kanan check it out that fentanyl is no joke, killing the clientele,” 50 wrote. “R.I.P. mciahel k williams #brandoncognac #lecheminduroi”

The post immediately received backlash online. However, 50 Cent would double down on his statements. “Don’t ever try to understand me I’m different,” he explained. “I don’t do all the fake love shit.”

Complex notes 50 and Williams had a brief back and forth online years ago over the claim Jimmy Henchman was assaulted in prison.

50 Cent Reflects On His Relationship With His Late Mother In Comparison To ‘Raising Kanan’

50 Cent Reflects On His Relationship With His Late Mother In Comparison To 'Raising Kanan'

50 Cent revealed that there was a part in the introduction of Power Book III: Raising Kanan that was inspired by his real life.

“I got bumped around a lot in the park but I was more afraid of my mom than the people I got bumped around [by] because I could not escape her,” he told Page Six. “She being a single mom at that point — she was everything,” he said.

Fifty added, “[There’s a scene] from the first episode where [titular character] Kanan gets beat up and he goes back in the house and his mother puts the toys in the socks,” 50 said to the website. “That really happened; that was from my life.”

The mogul continued speaking more on the way his mother comforted him when he was under emotional distress. “[S]he was my mom and my dad and she was tough so I didn’t know when it was OK to be emotional and when it wasn’t. She would look at me on the floor [when he was distressed] and say, ‘Get up — what you over there crying for acting like a little girl [for].’

50 Cent said, “She would get mad at you and you say, ‘Oh shit — it’s not OK to be hurt this time.’ OK, so let me get up. So she determined when she should be soft and when she should be firm.”

What other parts of Raising Kanan do you think are inspired by 50 Cent’s life?

STARZ Gives Power Book III Raising Kanan Early Season 2 Renewal Ahead of Series Premiere

Power Book III: Raising Kanan was already renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere on July 18th.

The prequel is a coming-of-age series centered around Kanan Stark, who mentored Ghost and Tommy and was ultimately set up to be killed by Tariq St. Patrick.

“One season isn’t enough to tell the coming-of-age story of Kanan Stark and his mother, Raq, a fierce and successful woman who is a force of nature,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO of Starz. “The anticipation globally for more of the Power Universe made it clear that the Kanan story needs to continue.”

Mekai Curtis stars as Kanan along with Patina Miller. They will be joined by Omar Epps, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada$$, Toby Sandeman, Shanley Caswell and Lovie Simone with Quincy Brown recurring.
