Mainly known for being a part of Ice Cube’s L.A.-based Da Lench Mob, rapper J-Dee admitted to his primary role in the shooting death of 23-year-old Scott Charles during a fight in Inglewood, CA in June 1993.

According to the parole hearing transcript obtained by VladTV, J-Dee, whose real name is Dasean Cooper, said, “I do accept responsibility because I brought everyone to that drama that night, every person involved in that from the very first scuffle. I even picked two people up who was not part of the original scuffle, brought them back to the location…I am responsible for everything that took place that night.”

During the hearing at Chuckawalla State Prison, the parole board commissioners observed Cooper crying, which they saw as genuine remorse. “You were remorseful and appropriately emotional when you discussed the harm you caused to your victims. Ultimately, the panel felt that you’ve demonstrated a lengthy period of positive rehabilitation, which is a standard for suitability under the law,” said presiding commissioner David Long.

J-Dee admitted his affiliation to the Crip gang in his Compton neighborhood growing up, but didn’t really associate with the Crips after his father was killed in the 1980s during the apex of L.A.’s gang wars.

He also told the board that a visit from his wife and daughter in 2013 helped him change his mind and his life for the better.

They told me…that I needed to make a decision today,” J-Dee said. “Was I going to spend my life in prison, trying to use cellphones, breaking rules, or was I going to do everything in my power to bring myself home to my family and children? It was a very powerful visit. Needless to say, I chose my family over spending the rest of my life in prison.”

Incarcerated since 1993 on a 29 years to life sentence, J-Dee is currently still in prison, pending the approval of his release by a second committee.

Bobby Shmurda’s Parole Hearing Was Reportedly Delayed Until Next Month

Bobby Shmurda's Parole Hearing Was Reportedly Delayed Until Next Month

Bobby Shmurda’s mother announced that her son had a parole hearing the week of August 17th but the date came and went with no news.

Complex reports that his hearing was delayed until September. “Ackquille Pollard’s Board of Parole interview is currently scheduled for the week of September 14,” a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) said.

There’s no guarantee that the Brooklyn rapper would be a free man that day, but the chances are high because he already served most of the time of his seven-year sentence. He’s scheduled to be released on December 11, 2021.

Bobby Shmurda and 11 other members of his GS9 clique were indicted in December 2014 on conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment, and drug and gun possession; charges against the others included murder, attempted murder, assault, and drug dealing. This case was a part of a two-year investigation by the NYPD’s Brooklyn South Violence Reduction Task Force and the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Gang Unit.

The “Hot N*gga” rapper’s mother shared a sweet message for her son in celebration of his 26th birthday. “My boy is Caring, Sharing, Sweet, Loving, Loyal Energetic, Empathetic and Brave he is such a unique person,” she wrote. “I am asking God to continue showering you with blessings my boy and I want you to understand that God has his way and he wouldn’t bring you this far to let you down.”

The DOCCS couldn’t provide an answer in regards to Rowdy Rebel’s parole hearing.

Bobby and Rowdy spoke to Two Bees TV during the beginning of their sentence and they both discussed their first day out plans. Check out the interview below:

Bobby Shmurda Could Be Released Today Following Parole Hearing

Bobby Shmurda Doesn't Look Like the "Hot N*gga" We Knew Anymore

According to Bobby Shmurda’s website and its posted countdown to his release, the GS9 frontman could possibly be a free man today following his parole hearing with the board.

With the end date set for August 4, 2020, and Shmurda’s mother, Leslie Pollard, optimistically awaiting her son’s release with the parole board’s approval, Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, could be back on the streets and in the booth in the next 24 hours.

Shmurda accepted a plea deal in 2016, in which he was charged with conspiracy to possess weapons and possession of a weapon. The charges of conspiracy to commit murder were dismissed and he was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 5 years probation.

Bobby Shmurda’s Mother Says Her Son Might Be Home Next Month

According to a report from Don Diva, Bobby Shmurda’s mother Leslie Pollard says that if everything goes as planned, the “Hot N***a” rapper will be released from prison next month.

Ms. Pollard said Bobby plans to tell the parole board that if they grant him a conditional release, he’s going to put his nose to the grindstone in the studio and most of all, stay out of trouble.

According to Mama Shmurda, Bobby has been doing a lot of songwriting behind bars and plans to put all of that writing to good use for his label, Epic Records. She also says that her son wants to produce a documentary about his life, which he’d like to be used as education for at-risk youth. Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, also plans on visiting detention centers and foster homes telling troubled youth his story so that they can avoid the same pitfalls that led him behind bars for seven years at the peak of his career.

Back on September 2, 2016, as part of a plea deal, Shmurda pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Back in 2017, Shmurda was given an additional four years for a jail made shank found in his belongings in prison, but the sentence ran concurrently with his original sentence.
