The WTC’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album, the mysterious LP that din’t even have a release within the next half century, is now getting a digitized and encrypted update from its new owners who are offering the public a piece of the album for just $1.

PleasrDAO, the crypto company who purchased the secret LP from pharma king Martin Shkreli for $4.75 million, has update the artwork and now giving up a sampler of the album for just a buck. The album is currently being hosted at the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) in Tasmania, while PleasrDAO had Cali artist Hassan Rahim update the artwork after the first cover because of potential legal issues.

On the album sampler, there is a “Rainy Dayz 2:”, an updated version of the track from Raekwon’s OB4CL album, along with Wu Tang-centered skits like those found on the GZA’s Liquid Swords as well as a guest appearance from Method Man’s Redman. U God even bragged that pop icon Cher appeared on the WTC’s latest double album, which actually wasn’t due to be released until 2103.

Today In Hip Hop History: Pharma King Martin Shkreli Threatens Ghostface Killah With Masked Goons 6 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 01 28 at 8.18.06 AM

On this date in hip Hop history in 2016, currently incarcerated pharma king Martin Shkreli must’ve been getting high on his own supply, as his possession of Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-a-kind, $2 million Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album seemed to give him the idea he was more important that the Clan, specifically Ghostface Killah.

Shkreli teased and taunted Tony Starks with insults like, “Dennis, I’m going to call you by your government name. You’re not a Ghostface Killah.” Shkreli even threatened to erase Ghost from the entire project if the Wu member said Shkreli’s name in any response to his video.

These threats were never carried out or even attempted by Shkreli. In fact, Shkreli’s federal fraud case took up more than enough of the crooked pharma king’s attention and eventually landed him seven years in federal prison and was forced to give up the coveted Wu-Tang Clan LP.

See the video of Shkreli’s threats below.

Just as the Wu has kept their careers and names out of the eye of the media, so have been the whereabouts of the WTC’s last full length project, the highly publicized, million dollar Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album. Following the conviction and arrest of former pharma king Martin Shkreli, he was forced to give up the album to federal authorities, but an art collective called PleasrDAO reportedly bought the album for $4 million. The government has refused to confirm that’s the price that was paid.

Earlier this week, the Department of Justice released pictures of the album in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Buzzfeed News, who released the photos to the media. They also released a copy of the bill of sale and purchase agreement.

The RZA and Cilvaringz-produced album is kept in a nickel silver box stored in a cedarwood box and draped in black cow leather with beige velvet lining. The one-of-a-kind album also includes a 175-page lyric book and gold-leafed certificate of authority.

The documents of sale also state that the new owners must adhere to the original agreement that Shkreli agreed;  “they may display the presentation box embedded with the Wu-Tang Clan logo, which was designed by British-Moroccan artist Yahya Rouach, but they are prohibited from making copies of the album.”

RZA contends that he’s optimistic about the new owners, stating, “Now that PleasrDAO has it, there’s opportunity that a lot these beautiful ideas of what this art can be and how it could expand itself in the world and in its own life of itself. I think the possibilities are there now.”
