Mark Cuban Directs Dallas Mavericks Staff to Stop Playing National Anthem Before Home Games

a

If you go to or watch a Dallas Mavericks game anytime soon don’t expect to hear the national anthem. ESPN reports owner Mark Cuban has stopped the playing of the national anthem before every home game.

Cuban stated the decision came after meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The anthem has not been played before any of their 13 games this season at their arena.

Previously, the NBA rulebook required players to stand during the national anthem but the rule has not been enforced during the season.

In June 2020, Cuban spoke with Outside the Lines and detailed his support for players kneeling, and expressed he would take part.

“Whether it’s holding their arm up in the air, whether it’s taking a knee, whatever it is, I don’t think this is an issue of respect or disrespect to the flag or to the anthem or to our country,” Cuban said. “I think this is more a reflection of our players’ commitment to this country and the fact that it’s so important to them that they’re willing to say what’s in their heart and do what they think is right.”

Colin Kaepernick Digs At Jay-Z & Beyoncé’s National Anthem Super Bowl Sitting

Colin Kaepernick is still throwing deep bombs but unfortunately, they’re not coming from inside the pocket anymore. The free-agent quarterback and activist seemingly took a swipe at Jay-Z and Beyoncé for sitting during the singing of the National Anthem during Super Bowl LIV.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet highlighted that Kaepernick, 32, took to his Instagram page and shared Miko Grimes’ Instagram Story post which featured the cover image for a TMZ report which highlighted that Mr. and Mrs. Carter remained seated during Demi Levato’s performance ahead of the big game in Miami.

We’ll let Showbiz Cheat Sheet take it from here:

It started with Miko Grimes, the wife of NFL star Brent Grimes. On Feb. 2, she took to her Instagram Story and posted a screenshot of TMZ’s coverage of the couple’s decision to sit for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Grimes captioned the image: “I thought we were ‘past kneeling’ [though]?” She ended her post with a thinking face emoji.

Kaepernick followed up by sharing Grimes’ post to his own Instagram Story. His girlfriend, Nessa Diab, also posted the image to her page.

Last year when Jay-Z’s Roc Nation announced its social justice initiative with the NFL, the move was met with heavy criticism which prompted the Brooklyn mogul to respond to the chatter.

During an August 2019 press conference next to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Jay-Z made the quip, “I think we’ve moved past kneeling and I think it’s time to go into actionable items.”

In Jay-Z’s defense, he did say he’s supportive of Kaepernick’s fight and doesn’t want an end to silent protests.

Gladys Knight To Sing National Anthem At Super Bowl LIII, Issues Statement On Colin Kaepernick

Gladys Knight has been tapped to sing the National Anthem ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl LIII game in Atlanta, seizing the moment as a means to unite the country. The veteran vocalist issued a statement regarding her appearance at the game, which also reflected on Colin Kaepernick‘s protests in a seemingly critical light as well.

Variety reports:

“I understand that Mr. Kaepernick is protesting two things, and they are police violence and injustice,” she wrote. “It is unfortunate that our National Anthem has been dragged into this debate when the distinctive senses of the National Anthem and fighting for justice should each stand alone.”

“I am here today and on Sunday, Feb. 3 to give the Anthem back its voice, to stand for that historic choice of words, the way it unites us when we hear it and to free it from the same prejudices and struggles I have fought long and hard for all my life, from walking back hallways, from marching with our social leaders, from using my voice for good — I have been in the forefront of this battle longer than most of those voicing their opinions to win the right to sing our country’s Anthem on a stage as large as the Super Bowl LIII.”

Eric Reid Calls Malcolm Jenkins A “Sell Out” & Almost Administered On-Field Fade

Carolina Panthers v Philadelphia Eagles

Eric Reid, one of the more notable free agents in the NFL until recently joining the Carolina Panthers, nearly administered a fade ahead of his team’s contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. The target of Reid’s rage was Malcolm Jenkins, whom he called a “sell out” regarding the handling of the National Anthem protests.

Deadspin reports:

Jenkins is one of the faces of the Players Coalition, which last November came close to cutting a crappy deal with the NFL that was mostly to get players to stop kneeling or demonstrating during the national anthem. Donald Trump was tweeting too much about it and got racists to circle the wagons, so that scared the league. When Reid found out about the strings attached to this “$100 million” contribution by the NFL, he and Dolphins safety Michael Thomas left the group because they felt that Jenkins didn’t represent their best interests.

At his locker today, Reid called Jenkins a “sellout,” as well as—in what might be an NFL first for a player talking about another player—a “neo-colonialist.” “His actions speak louder than his words,” the Panthers defensive back said. Even though he wasn’t named a captain for today’s game, he didn’t regret confronting Jenkins at the coin toss, and expressed how he felt about the Eagles DB’s leadership of the coalition.

Pretty safe to say that Eric Reid is about that action, boss. Oh and the Panthers beat the Eagles 21-17 in a come-from-behind victory too. After the game, Jenkins didn’t have much to say about Reid trying to hand out the taper and edge up.
