Edwards, a Democrat, says he believes the bills should have rape and incest exceptions, but he didn’t want to veto the them entirely.

The bills have come under fire from the Biden Administration, with officials calling them “radical” and “extreme”. Criminal charges cannot be brought against a woman who receives an abortion.

Meek Mill is serious about his support of criminal justice reform.

In his latest attempt to shed light on the disparity between how police and the justice system handles Black Americans versus their white counterparts, Meek Mill took to social media to share a viral video that showed a police officer in Louisiana planting drugs on a handcuffed Black man after stopping the man claiming he “fit the subscription” of a suspect wanted in the area for selling drugs.

On Tuesday (Mar 17) the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper took to Twitter to share the video, captioning the tweet with a message of his own noting that the incident isn’t anything new to men of color who have experienced this type of unwarranted and illegal behavior for years.

“Now ya’ll can see on video what’s been going on with us black men for years,” Meek said.

According to published reports, the incident in the now-viral video happened on Monday (Mar 16) when three officers responded to a call in the area that a suspect was selling drugs. The video shows the three officers detaining and handcuffing Dominique Griffin because he reportedly “matched the description” of the suspect in question. The video not only shows the officers manhandling Griffin, but it also shows one of the officers attempting to plant drugs on an already handcuffed Griffin before another officer begins chasing the woman who was recording the incident taking place.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Capt. Jason Rivarde, Griffin resisted arrest and bit the arresting officer who was treated and released from a local hospital. All deputies involved were interviewed as part of the investigation.

“The video in question is part of the evidence that has been collected in the case,” JPSO said in a statement. “It has been alleged by third parties that evidence on the scene was planted by one of our deputies. Our on-scene deputies have been interviewed in this matter and gave reasonable explanations to the actions depicted in the video.”

JPSO also noted that Griffin was also interviewed by authorities who obtained a search warrant to confiscate his cell phone, which uncovered what they determined to be evidence of a “potential drug transaction.”

Despite the “evidence”, Griffin was not booked on drug charges but will reportedly face charges for alleged battery against an officer.

Kevin Gates Banned From Louisiana Jail Following Viral Money Pic

Kevin Gates isn’t allowed to visit and family or friends who are doing time in Louisiana prison.

According to the local NBC-affiliate KALB News, the Louisiana Department of Corrections, banned the rapper from all of its facilities.

This action is a result of a picture of Gates going viral holding a stack of money during a visitation at St. Gabriel facility. The caption indicated that he was visiting C-Murder, his son, Lee Lucas, and several other inmates.

This was a violation because visitors are prohibited from bringing more than $300 to any Department of Corrections’ building.

“As indicated in the photograph, it appears Mr. Gates had a large sum of cash, which is unacceptable, and a violation,” a Department of Corrections spokesperson, Ken Pastorick, told The Advocate. “It is against Elayn Hunt Correctional Center policy to bring case exceeding $300 into the prison, and any amount above that is considered contraband.”

Investigators learned that Gates entered the facility without showing proper identification and bypassed security checkpoints, therefore, several employees including a deputy warden, was disciplined.

“Following the investigation, Warden Tim Hooper ended Perry Stagg’s detail as Deputy Warden of Elayn Hunt Correctional Center,” Pastorick said in a statement. “Major Jason Linzy received a letter of counseling. Additional training has been provided to staff regarding visitation policies.”

An artist affiliated with Lil Wayne‘s Young Money recording label imprint was sentenced this week to life in prison on a double murder conviction. Widner “Flow” Degruy was handed down the sentence on Tuesday (May 14) in connection to a 2015 Memorial Day case.

NOLA.com reports:

Degruy, 27, was convicted April 8 of two counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. A jury deliberated about 1 ½ hours before convicting Degruy, a rapper signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money record label, in 11-1 verdicts.

He pleaded guilty earlier to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the case.

In an impact statement read before Criminal District Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier handed down Degruy’s sentence, the brothers’ mother, Sherry Strauss, said her children were her “everything.”

Assistant District Attorney Irena Zajickova read the statement on Strauss’ behalf as she sat in the gallery of the courtroom.

“In the beginning, I hated you,” Strauss wrote. “I considered you a monster. Today, I no longer hate you. I feel sorry for you.”

The Bishop brothers – 18-year-old Kendred, who went by the name Kirby, and 22-year-old Kendrick, a rap artist signed to Degruy’s record label who performed as MuddyCupBuddy – were gunned down inside a black Kia sedan in the 4800 block of Bright Drive around 5:45 a.m. on May 25, 2015.

The outlet adds that Degruy carried out the slaying because he believed the brothers stole $8,000 from him girlfriend’s car according to prosecutors, but Degruy put the slayings on his co-defendant, who received 20 years for cooperating and put the crime on Degruy.

A number of fires in Lousiana that occurred at churches with a sizeable Black congregation sparked an investigation that eventually moved towards the involvement of federal authorities. An arrest has been made in the fires and the lone suspect is said to be the son of a deputy sheriff.

KATC reports:

Sources confirm the suspect in the church arsons is Holden Matthews, 21. He is the son of a St. Landry Parish Deputy.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz tells KATC that, despite rumors, Matthews’ father did not turn his son in to deputies.

Matthews was booked at around 5:30 this evening into the St. Landry Parish jail.

We’re told that the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to be there along with officials from St. Landry Parish, The FBI, and ATF.

“I’m very proud of the investigative effort that has lead to this arrest. I’m prayerful that we can close this horrific chapter and begin to heal. I’m especially uplifted by the Christian Community right now. God bless us one and all,” Congressman Clay Higgins said in a statement to KATC.

Charges for Matthews have not yet been announced.
