Add Fredo Bang’s name to the list of rappers with arrest by the police. Bang and another Baton Rouge rapper, Lit Yoshi, who was already out on a $1.82 million bond, were arrested yesterday in Miami.
Thursday afternoon, federal agents searched a south Florida home that Bang, whose real name is Fredrick Givens II, and Yoshi stayed in. The motive and what authorities discovered during the raid are still uncertain, but it’s reported that the two artists were arrested on Louisiana warrants.
The arrest came one day before the rapper was supposed to take the stage at South Florida’s Rolling Loud music festival.
Yoshi, whose real name is Mieyoshi Edwards, now faces new charges as he waits for his trial in Baton Rouge for what prosecutors are calling a violent gang war allegedly involving fellow Baton Rouge rapper NBA Youngboy.
Bang and Yoshi are in a rap group known as Top Boy Gorilla, or TBG, which had been allegedly feuding with the Youngboy’s NBA, or Never Broke Again Crew.
According to the Miami Herald, two years ago, Miami-Dade police homicide detectives had been looking to speak to Givens and Edwards about the feud. The reason: somebody in a passing car opened fire on YoungBoy — whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden — outside the Trump International Beach Resort in Sunny Isles Beach.
The shoot-out ended with YoungBoy’s girlfriend being shot and wounded. Three innocent bystanders were grazed; a man from Texas, his girlfriend, and her 5-year-old son. Lastly, one stray bullet killed Mohamad Jradi, 43, a Hertz rental car employee who had just finished his shift across the street.
No one has been charged in the Miami-Dade shooting.
Unfortunately, prosecutors in Louisiana have publicly linked Edwards and the TBG group to the Sunny Isles Beach shooting. According to the Advocate, a judge in Louisiana ruled that evidence of the Sunny Isles Beach shooting could be used against Edwards in his upcoming trial.
We’re keeping an eye on this as more develops.
