On today’s date in 2007, Sean Price of the legendary Boot Camp Clik released his second solo album entitled Jesus Price Supastar on Duck Down Records.

Jesus Price Supastar features production from 9th Wonder and Khrysis, as well as Illmind, Tommy Tee, Moss, and P.F. Cuttin. Album guests include Boot Camp Clik members Buckshot, Steele and Rock, Rustee Juxx, Sadat X, Block McCloud, Phonte, Chaundon, and The Loudmouf Choir. The album was met with a positive reception from music critics.

Jesus Price Supastar debuted on the Billboard Hot 200 chart at #196, making it the first Boot Camp Clik album since 1999 to crack the chart.

This album was a superb follow up to Monkey Barz, Price’s solo debut, but not even the BCC expected Sean’s solo ventures to be received so well by an entirely different generation of Hip Hoppers than he was used to that celebrated his Helton Skeltah success.

After four successful solo albums, Price’s life was cut short in August 2015 by what has still been ruled undetermined.

Salute to the Price family, his wife Bernie, his daughter Shaun, Buckshot, Steele, Tek and the entire Duck Down team for sharing the unparalleled talent of an artist like Sean Price. P!

Today In Hip Hop History: Boot Camp Clik’s Sean Price Passed Away Seven Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 08 08 at 10.17.21 AM

The Hip Hop community will never forget the feeling that permeated the atmosphere the morning that everyone woke up to find out that Sean Price aka Hussain Sayyid aka Ruck of the famed Boot Camp Clik duo Heltah Skeltah passed away in his sleep on this date seven years ago. He was 43 years old.

His death sent shock waves throughout Hip Hop, especially in NYC and Brooklyn to be specific. The native Brownsvillian was loved and respected in his community, whether it was for his penchant for spitting fire verses, his Comedy Central-esque shenanigans or just being one of the few examples of a responsible family man in the hood.

P left behind a myriad of solo studio work, including Mic Tyson and the critically acclaimed, yet posthumous release, Songs In The Key Of Price, in which his scheduled album release party at NYC’s SOBs ironically was turned into a memorial show.

Rest In Peace to Sean P. and condolences to his wife Bernadette and their children from the entire Mind Squad. Supreme salute to the entire Boot Camp Clik for holding down their comrade and his legacy.

The album’s lead single, “Leflaur Leflah Eshkosha” featuring OGC made chart appearances in the US and Europe peaking at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Happy 48th Birthday To The Rap Bar-Barian Sean Price! (R.I.P.)

On this day in 1972, the late legend Sean Price of the Boot Camp Clik was born.  His first appearance was on Smif-N-Wessun’s 1995 album Dah Shinnin’, and his next major appearance was in 1996 as part of the duo Heltah Skeltah, who released the album Nocturnal on Duck Down Records. They would release two more albums as a duo, Magnum Force in 1998 and D.I.R.T. in 2008.

During the 2000s, Price made a name for himself as a heavyweight in the underground Hip Hop community. His first solo album, Monkey Barz, was released in 2005 and received critical acclaim, peaking at #70 on the Billboard Hip Hop chart. To this day, the album is held in ridiculously high esteem among commercial and independent artists, and after that, he went on to release two more albums, Jesus Price Supastar and Mic Tyson, both of which made debuts on the Billboard 200 chart (Jesus Price Supastar hitting #196 and Mic Tyson hitting #59).

Sean Price passed away in his sleep on August 8, 2015, and the details surrounding the death are still unknown. Within four days of his passing, his fans were able to help raise $72,883 to help his family with funeral costs. Two years later, the posthumous Imperius Rex was released, with some of Price’s songs classed among some of BCC’s greatest hits.

In honor of his born day, here are a couple of his most popular videos to help educate those who aren’t aware of his greatness.

Sean Price & Lil Fame Take “Center Stage” On A New Release From P (Audio)

It has been more than four years since the incomparable Sean Price, but thankfully, his name continues to ring bells through new music reaching the fans. Right in time for the holidays, Ruckdown/Duck Down Music will release Price Of Fame, a collaborative album from P and fellow Brownsville MC/producer Lil Fame of M.O.P. on December 20, and is available for pre-order. Comprised of all unreleased verses from P!, Price Of Fame is entirely produced and arranged by Lil Fame—who has also used his “Fizzy Womack” alias on credits behind the boards. Although known for menacing Mash Out Posse songs over the last quarter-century, Fame has amassed a respected discography making songs for Wu-Tang Clan, AZ, Cormega, and many others. Price Of Fame first single, “Center Stage,” is just one of 11 tracks that shows precisely why the icon will forever be known as “a bar-barian.” The LP was something Sean was talking about just before his 2015 passing. Tony Touch Power Cypher Featuring A.G., Black Thought, M1, Lil Fame, Sean Price & Illa Ghee (Video) “Me and Sean P always spoke about recording an album together,” Lil Fame shared with Complex. “We grew up in the same [Brownsville, Brooklyn] neighborhood and came up in the game about the same time. So when we finally got in the studio, the sh*t was epic. Y’all know P! is a beast with them bars.” The verse features Sean’s trademark style of clever compound rhyme schemes. Fame offers a second verse, illustrating how things have not changed. Price finishes the track out with some gritty, self-deprecating rhymes. In 2000, M.O.P. Went Hunting For CD Bootleggers To Mash Out (Video) The album features guest appearances from Boot Camp Clik brethren Smif-N-Wessun and Rockness Monsta as well as Conway The Machine, Illa Ghee, and Rim. Billy Danze joins Fame on one of two songs. Meanwhile, M.O.P.’s longtime right-hand-man also joins the fold. The Price Of Fame tracklist: 1. ‘A Few Words From Mrs. Price’ 2. ‘Big Gun Vs Lil Gun’ f/ M.O.P. 3. ‘Center Stage’ 4. ‘Boston George’ f/ Tek 5. ‘Sit Your Ass Down’ (Skit) 6. ‘Pigs’ f/ General Steele 7. ‘They Ain’t Fucking With Us’ f/ Rockness Monsta 8. ‘Remember The Time’ f/ Illa Ghee 9. ‘Wait For It’ f/ Lil Fame 10. ‘Peter Pop Off’ f/ Rim, Teflon & I-Fresh 11. ‘Enemy Of The State’ f/ Conway The Machine Smif-N-Wessun Discuss Giving 25 Years Of Their All To Hip-Hop (AFH TV Video) Sean Price press photo by Danielle Da Silva provided by Duck Down Music.

Eric Sermon Says He Has New And Exclusive Music With Prodigy and Sean Price (Coming Real Soon)

Eric Sermon stopped by The Breakfast Club to catch everyone up on what he has been doing over the past few years. From starting his new streaming service to figuring out inexpensive ways to pay for samples, he is making some very respectable moves in 2019. However, what do people want most form the E Double? WE WANT MUSIC… (read it like the song). Well, Sermon says that he has music coming to fans by the summer.

Entitled the Dynamic Duo, this project will feature all of the top duos that he has worked with over his career. As one might imagine, just glancing over his extensive discography, he has worked with everyone.  Names like RUN DMC, Redman & Method Man, Roger Troutman, Heavy D, Shaq, George Clinton, Keith Murray, LL Cool J, Bounty Killa, AZ, JAY-Z, Mos Def, Too Short, 50 Cent,  Ludacris, Busta Rhymes BBD and even the queen BEYONCÉ, simply illuminate his production discography.  But with this project, he is primed to outdo many of those aforementioned projects.

While Charlamagne Tha God suggested some standout duos that might be on the project. Sermon did not confirm or deny, but did drop a few acts that might tickle the fancy of true fans. Black Star with Mos Def and Talib Kweli are on deck. Heltah Skeltah with Rock and the late great Sean Price. CNN with Capone and the podcast king, N.O.R.E. Head went on to list Cypress Hill, RED and Meth, Salt-N-Pepa, RUNDMC (really son), Naughty By Nature, Dogg Pound, M.O.P. Smif-N-Wessun, Eightball and MJG, and even Mobb Deep with a dope Havoc and a vibrant Prodigy (RIP).  He wanted to get Outkast, but said that was impossible to get done even though he spoke to Andre. He wanted A Tribe Called Quest, but that did not happen. We know that is because Malik (SIP) is with the angels.

When talking about the Mobb Deep track he said that Havoc had to walk out the room it is so good.

The interview revealed a lot about his relationship with PMD, his time in the legendary group EPMD that launched his career and how he got money when it was hard for east coast rappers to eat.
