Much respect Heir Wallace! for the consistent body of work you’ve been putting out for the past year. Before getting into the new mixtape, for the readers who don’t know, how long have you been making music?
In a way all my life, since I could remember I’ve been writing music. I started taking it seriously around 11.
What area of San Diego are you from? Any particular influences from your area that motivated you to make music?
At first City Heights but I moved around a lot. People I’ve met through music events and open mics, there’s not really a lot of people poppin in SD right now.
How have you been doing during this pandemic? What do you think about the whole situation? How are you pivoting your music grind during this time?
The Black Lives Matter issues have bothered me more than the pandemic. By the way, black lives do matter! However, the pandemic has given me more time to work on myself which I am constantly doing. I got furloughed, so now my mindset is “This is God giving me an opportunity to be a full time rapper.” My work output in the studio has tripled.
Just heard the new mixtape, “Let’s Go Crazy”! The production is super dope!! Who produced this project?
My real life wifeyy NoShenanigins produced the whole mixtape. She’s a beast!
Briefly describe the creative process involving the mixtape?
Prince is a huge inspiration of mine. I took the concept and vibe of his song “Let’s Go Crazy” and I feel like I translated it into my version of hip hop. That’s why there’s so many different vibes and ranges of sub-genres on this mixtape.
In a few words, what do new listeners expect to hear?
New listeners should expect raw, verbal emotion toppled over fire beats.
All the songs were on fire! On your behalf, what are your top three tracks off the project?
Top 3: No Sir, Let’s Go Crazy, and Feel It is my baby. They switch A LOT though!
Anything else in the works for the rest of 2020? If so, let our readers know!
Me and wifey got a project dropping on Sept.18th. We do collaborative projects here and there, this is the second one. We got A LOT MORE coming very soon.
Underground Hip Hop: the purest form, where voices are born.
Where can people find more of your music? Is there a main platform?
Majority of the music is on Apple and Spotify. We have a lot of music videos on Youtube and post songs frequently on Soundcloud under neckofthewoodsent.
Any shout outs?
Notapologetic, Neck of the Woods ENT, all the features (Wild Wes, Walt Trab, S!mple, ayokellz, YoungNz) Jahdidit (mixed 80% of the project). Absolute thanks and shoutout to my wife NoShenanigins and God (my foundation). Last but not least Shoutout and appreciation to Underground HipHop Blog, y’all the greatest!
