De Blasio’s CNN Ratings As Low As His Poll Numbers

New York’s mayor and presidential candidate Bill de Blasio is not doing so well. Despite his low popularity with New Yorkers, his appeal does not seem to get better when gauging other Americans. Proof of this can be found in the extremely low numbers from his CNN town hall meeting on Sunday nite at 7 p.m.

According to Nielsen, only a mere 376,000 viewers nationwide tuned in to listen to his platform. Whomp… Whomp…

Some believe that the season premiere of Power pulled a few people from watching de Blasio. However, more people believe it has everything to do with his current policies in New York and his lack of urgency around social justice issues connected to the Black Lives Matter movement.

In fact, at the town hall meeting protesters interrupted the program. They wanted to draw attention to the his lack of support to the Garner family in light of Eric Garner’s death.

NYPD Finally Fires Daniel Pantaleo, Officer Who Killed Eric Garner In Chokehold

Eric Garner demonstrations mark the 5th anniversary of his death

What took so damn long? Today (August 19), the NYPD announced they were firing Officer Danny Pantaleo, the cop who murdered Eric Garner after placing him in an illegal chokehold five years ago.

NYPD chief James O’Neill made the announcement that Pantaleo got canned.

“Trials Commissioner Maldonado ruled that officer Pantaleo’s use of a prohibited chokehold was reckless and constituted a gross deviation from the standard of conduct established for a New York City police officer,” said O’Neill.

He added, “In this case the unintended consequence of Mr. Garner’s death must have a consequence of its own. Therefore I agree with the Deputy Commissioner of Trial’s legal findings and recommendations. It is clear that Daniel Pantaleo can no longer effectively serve as a New York City Police Officer.”

The NYPD just admitted to killing Garner considering the medical examiner said the chokehold lead to his demise, yet no one has gone to jail for his murder. Two weeks ago, a judge recommended Pantaleo be fired, but the final decision rested on O’Neill.

Pantaleo will also not be receiving his pension. The infamous cop should have money saved up considering he still continued to receive raises while on desk duty after Garner’s death.

Nevertheless, the Justice Department passed on pursuing charges against Pantaleo.

“There no victors here today,” said O’Neill. Ya think?

Joe Budden Blasts Bill de Blasio For Not Speaking on Eric Garner Murder

Joe Budden has never been the person to hold his tongue on anything. While fans tune into his podcast to hear him break down the latest things in pop culture, occasionally he gets serious. In his latest episode, culminating almost two hours of new music talk, he gets political.

On 268 episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, he checks Bill de Blasio for not commenting on Eric Garner’s murder during the debate.

How it all unfolded…

Budden and his co-hosts, Mal, Rory, and Parks, weigh in on the Bolton Jean murder, who listened to their podcast.

As the story goes, a white female police officer in Texas accidentally killing a Black man in his home. She thought she was in her own home, which in her mind justified her shooting the unarmed Jean. Rumors have swirled that the two had been romantic. Budden was visibly disturbed at the media’s attempt to whitewash this case by making over the white female officer, making her look more innocent- and more likely to get off.  This was a transitional story edging into the Eric Garner story, and him blasting New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio.

Joe Budden says:

“I hope they keep Amber Guyger’s ass right there and give her ass exactly what she deserves. Unlike what they’ve done with the gentleman who murdered Eric Garner right in front of our faces. Took a few years, but they suspended him.”

“Bill de Blasio is running for president and they were protesting outside of the democratic debates. So now he wants to do something about it,” Parks chimes in.

Rory added, “They asked him at the debates.”

Joe shrugs:

“And he didn’t answer. He did not answer. I want to point that out. He danced. It seems like his whole objective was just to attack Biden. Like how we jumped from murder to the democratic debate… but it certainly ties in.”

Rory continues, “They had it on the news he is getting suspended and the judge wants him to get terminated. Like that’s some kind of victory. He should be arrested, not terminated from his job. He murdered someone on camera.”

Parks: “And just because he wants to run for president, he wants to do something about it.”

Joe offers:

“Maybe the first step in them doing something  to homeboy who murdered Mr. Garner, is to get him away from the police force, so he can no longer be protected by that code of blue. And then they file charges… I don’t know. All of it is disturbing. Justice for Eric Garner. Justice for Bolton Jean. Justice for any Black man murdered in America minding his business.”

Closing out the segment they even offered that despite what people say about Garner being murdered for selling loose cigarettes, he was actually breaking up a fight.

Joe states:

“He was breaking up a fight and they got him because they were familiar with him selling the cigarettes. So you can be policing your own neighborhood, trying to keep the streets safe and get murdered. Just to be clear.”

Clearly, we know who Joe will not be voting for, and what issues are important to him.

Mysonne Rides For Eric Garner By Protesting In Audience At Last Night’s Democratic Debate

Mysonne

New York rapper Mysonne is way more than your average hip-hop artist. The rap veteran is making headlines for pulling through to last night’s Democratic debate to call for the firing of the officer responsible for killing Eric Garner.

Mysonne went to Instagram to share footage of the emotional moment when he joined others in interrupting the debate.

Last night’s televised debate had multiple interruptions with people protesting for the life of Eric Garner and immigration.

The first happened only minutes into the debate, which was broadcast live on CNN. During New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker’s opening statement, a few audience members began yelling, “Fire Pantaleo.” The chant was a reference to Staten Island, N.Y., police officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was involved in the 2014 death of Eric Garner. Garner, who was black, died after being placed in a chokehold by Pantaleo, who is white. Police had approached Garner suspecting he was illegally selling cigarettes. (NPR)

Mysonne and fellow protestors ultimately aimed their chants toward current New York mayor and presidential hopeful Bill de Blasio.

The chants were directed at New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, and the protesters accomplished bringing Garner’s death and the recent Justice Department announcement that it would not bring charges against Pantaleo or the other officers involved in the incident into the conversation onstage. The mayor has been under great pressure from Garner’s family, activists, other politicians and the media to make sure justice is served — and, to most people, that means terminating Pantaleo. But it appears that the mayor has largely failed to act, instead waiting for federal and local investigations to play out. (Washington Post)

Activist Tamika Mallory also defended her decision to protest during the debate.

Common Unloads After Officer Not Charged For Killing Eric Garner: “5 Years Later + Still No Justice”

Common

Grammy-winning rapper Common is beyond disgusted right now. The Chicago rap veteran has shared his frustrations and heartbreak over a police officer not getting federally charged in the chokehold death of New York resident Eric Garner.

Common went to Instagram this week to explain his state of mind following the Depart of Justice’s decision not to federally charge NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.

A day before the anniversary of Garner’s 2014 death, the Department of Justice made its controversial decision.

A contentious, yearslong debate inside the Justice Department over whether to bring federal civil rights charges against an officer in the death of Eric Garner ended on Tuesday after Attorney General William P. Barr ordered that the case be dropped. The United States attorney in Brooklyn, Richard P. Donoghue, announced the decision one day before the fifth anniversary of Mr. Garner’s death at the hands of police officers on Staten Island. (New York Times)

Garner’s mother spoke on the choice and expressed how much pain it brought the family.

“Today we can’t breathe because they have let us down,” Gwen Carr, Eric Garner’s mother, said at a press conference after the decision was made public. “We have been on the forefront. We have followed it up. We had to go. We had to fight. This is not a easy fight but we kept on pushing.”
“And make no mistake about we’re going to still push,” she added. “You could push back but we’re pushing forward because this is not the end.” (NBC New York)

According to reports, the DOJ had up until today to make a decision on whether to not to hand out federal charges.

Wednesday, five years after Garner died, was the deadline for federal authorities to decide whether to bring civil rights charges. Pantaleo is accused of placing Garner in a chokehold, which he denies. “Five years later and there’s still no justice,” said Emerald Garner, Eric Garner’s daughter. Garner’s death was ruled a homicide by New York’s medical examiner, who said the incident triggered a fatal asthma attack. (WKYT News)
