Tyler Perry is the Recipient for Governors Award at 2020 Primetime Emmys

The prestigious Governors Award at the 2020 Primetime Emmys goes to someone who made outstanding contributions to television, and this year Tyler Perry is the recipient.

Perry is best known for his comedy-drama movies and plays, as well as his humanitarian efforts. “I’m grateful for and humbled by this recognition from the Television Academy,” Perry said in a statement provided to Deadline regarding the honor. “I’ve always prided myself on the work we do at the studio, our diverse representation of people from all walks of life, and the community we’ve built. My hope is that through moments like this we can remind others of the power of ownership and show that when the world doesn’t offer you a seat at the table, you can build your own.”

Tyler Perry has changed the face of television and inspired a new generation of content creators,” Governors Award selection committee Chair Eva Basler says of this year’s recipient. “He pioneered a new brand of storytelling that engages people of color both in front of and behind the camera, and his shows have resonated with a global audience.”

Terrence Howard Receives Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Fresh off the heels of his announcement to fall back from acting, Terrence Howard received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He was joined by his wife and two children when the star was unveiled right after the premiere of the series finale of Empire.

The Oscar-nominated actor gave an acceptance speech for about three minutes thanking a number of people who helped him get to where he is today. “A few years ago I was taken down by Hollywood and was told I would never work again,” Howard said. “But then, a young woman named Dana Walden had faith in me and allowed me to head her show.”

The star sits next to his co-star, Taraji P. Henson’s star. “Because my name is written in stone in Hollywood, as long as there’s a Hollywood Boulevard, Terrence Howard will still stand,” he said.

In recent Terrence Howard news, he announced that he’s retiring from acting to focus on philanthropy because he was able to “open up the flower of life.”

“…I mean everyone keeps trying to tell me, ‘Don’t say it’s forever,’ but I’ve spent 37 years pretending to be people, so that people can pretend to watch and enjoy what I’m doing, when I’ve made some discoveries in my own personal life – with the science – that Pythagoras was searching for. I’ve opened up the flower of life properly and found the real wave conjugations that we’ve been looking for, for 10,000 years. Why would I continue walking on water for tips, when I’ve got an entire generation to teach a whole new world.”

50 Cent Claims Emmys Are “Racist” For Not Recognizing ‘Power’

Besides collecting the money that everybody in the world owes him, Hip-Hop mogul and T.V. boss 50 Cent has made some claims about the politics of Hollywood. The “In Da Club,” MC has said his hit show Power, which has been on since 2014, had never received any Emmy nominations because it’s a Black show.

“I like to say it’s racial. That’s the easy way to get out of things,” 50 said during a panel discussion on Friday (July 26) at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, reports The Associated Press.  “People who are running and connected to these ceremonies are not necessarily cool people.”

“So now, we’ll never get one,” show creator Courtney Kemp jokingly said about 50’s comment, adding, “I thought we were doing something new and fresh. I was hoping that the Emmy voters would take notice, and they didn’t. You just accept it and move on. But we’ve been winning Image Awards now for quite some time. It feels as though our core audience does love and respect the show. Not every show gets the attention it deserves.”

The new season of Power is set to begin airing on Aug. 25. After first confirming it would be the final season, 50, who has been busy touring and producing other TV content, has since played with fans’ emotions and said there might be more in store.

New York Times Confuses Angela Bassett for Omarosa

Early versions of the New York Times highlighted a photograph Tiffany Haddish and Angela Bassett giving Rachel Brosnahan her Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a comedy, with a caption in which Bassett is recognized as Omarosa Manigault Newman.

Eagle-eye readers were quick to point it out. “oh my god the New York Times mixed up Angela Bassett with Omarosa,” tweeted Buzzfeed reporter Julia Reinstein.

The Times immediately reacted to her, tweeting, “We regret running an incorrect caption from a photo wire service in some early print editions. We will issue a correction in tomorrow’s paper.”

Agence France-Presse, the wire service initially in charge of the incorrect caption, has since fixed the mistake.

Bobby Brown meets Millie Bobby Brown at the Emmys

If there is anything that a 14-year-old Caucasian girl and middle aged Black male ever had in common, it would be their names. The Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown had a conversation with Bobby Brown over the phone during Monday night’s 2018 Emmy Awards.

Apparently, Tracy Morgan introduced the two while taking a break in the Lindt Chocolate Lounge inside of the Microsoft Theater. The Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nominee was excited to as she spoke to the “Perrogative” singer on speakerphone. We are pretty sure having the same name was the bud of their convo over the phone!

Following the convo, Morgan presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series with Jimmy Kimmel.  Of course, Morgan poked fun before announcing the winner stating, that he was “only rooting for the black people.” “I’m rooting for Leslie Jones, Zazie Beetz, and Millie Bobby Brown.”

Kimmel then reacted to Morgan jokingly stating that the young actress was neither black nor a contender in the category. Morgan jabbed back with “Well, then she’s uninvited to the cookout”.
