Congratulations on your latest album release “Bewildered Thoughts & Burning Desires”. We checked it out and we really enjoyed the fresh new sound & perspective on new Hip Hop coming out of Lansing, Michigan. What motivated you to create this style of music. And how did you come up with your MC name E-K?
My life experiences and the experiences of the people around me motivate me to create my style of music. I find ways to express myself and other people from a different standpoint. I try to make something that you can bob your head to and vibe with. My MC name comes from the pronunciation of my actual name.
How is the underground sound out in Lansing, Michigan.?
To be honest, it’s not for me. I think it’s pretty simplistic but I’d like to play a major role in changing that. I think a lot of people are saying the same things in the same ways and rap to me is saying the same thing in different ways. You have to be more creative and different somehow.
How are you dealing with this whole nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 CoronaVirus? Has this affected your music career in any way?
I’m just trying to write consistently, work on my craft, and continue to learn new things. I’m trying my best not to be stagnated and remain proactive. This has definitely affected my music career. We’ve been unable to book shows, network, or promote how we’d like. We’re just making adjustments though and not letting it wipe us out.
Who are your biggest Hip Hop influences?
Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Big Sean, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. I try to have the bars and swag they deliver it with.
You recently dropped a new album “Bewildered Thoughts & Burning Desires” across all streaming platforms! Please give us some background on that project!? Could you tell me the inspiration behind the project and artwork?
That project was something else. It was my first project and I experienced a roller coaster of emotions while making it. I wanted it to illustrate my versatility. I was shooting for it to show that I can really rap, make swag music, make melodic songs, and make more serious music. It’s supposed to be a journey from upbeat/hyper songs to melancholy/serious vibes. The project name and artwork encompasses the melancholy vibes, the slow tempo beats, and the desires that I’ve always wanted or have already gotten. I’m just pouring out my ideas and feelings as you can see from the artwork where there’s a snake coming out of my mouth and a little orb that represents my desires.
How does social media play a role in pushing E-K music.
Social media plays a big role. It helps me stay relevant, gain exposure, show the different sides of me, and help people fall in love with the personality and character of me as a whole. I’m trying to gain even more followers so that no one’s missing out on what I’m offering.
What are a few different moves you’re making for 2020 when it comes to your music career?
I’m learning the business side of music to an extreme extent, I’m networking with different artists and producers, and I’m trying to push my name to any and everyone. I recognize more that I have to branch out if I want to be known in more spaces.
Our most popular question….What is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground Hip Hop to me is a wave of artists that are unknown, unsigned, and trying to make a name. They’re raw talent that just need direction, the right opportunity, and the right exposure to prove they’re just as good as anyone else out there.
Where can our BLOG audience find your music and follow you on social media?
