Kodak Black Says He's Drake's Favorite Rapper | The Source

South Florida rap standout Kodak Black took to Instagram to talk about his road to recovery, telling his fans and followers that he’s back in the driver’s seat when it comes to his abuse of prescription pills, specifically the opiate Percocet.

I remember a point in my life when I was chewing a lot of Percs,” he said. “Bro, I’m proud of myself. I’ve never been this happy in my life, bro. I don’t know where this came from, what the fuck going on. I ain’t even going to say I’m anti-Perc. Like, I never took a Perc since I been home. But bro, my dosage so low that I can’t believe it myself. Man, I’m telling y’all, bro.”

Yak added, “Before I just went to jail, bro, I was taking… I can talk about this because it’s my testimony. Bro, I’m hollering at y’all, ain’t no shame in my shit. I was taking, bro, at least 100 Percs. Bro, my average was 40 Percocets. I’m telling y’all this man. I ain’t know, to the point where I look at this shit and be like, what the fuck was wrong with me, bruh? I listen to my music and be like, bro, what the fuck, fam?”

Prescription drug overdoses are the third leading cause of all deaths in the United States and Europe, only second to heart disease and cancer.

eminem rag and bone the icon project capsule collection

After his back and forth, on wax beef with Snoop Dogg, Eminem has found himself explaining the meaning of his “Zeus” track, which also contains an apology for Rihanna. The 48-year-old Mathers has now opened up more about himself to the critics and fans as he reveals what it was like trying to “relearn” how to rap again because of his acute drug addiction during the recording of his Relapse LP.

While apologizing for the jab taken at Rihanna and Chris Brown on “Things Get Worse”, EM also admits that he has “no recollection” of writing that verse.

“I said it, and I was wrong for saying that. It was f–king stupid. You know, a lot of times, especially with the ‘Relapse’ record, when I first started learning how to rap again, because of the drug situation that I went through and having to relearn a lot of things, that was one of those things that it was like, ‘Well, if it rhyme, say it.’”

For Vince Staples, Sobriety Also Meant Survival

Vince Staples GQ Sober Musicians

Source: Michael Schmelling / GQ

Vince Staples has only lived for a quarter of a century, but he’s already cemented his place as a cultural commentator along with his formidable musical contributions. Given that many artists of his generation rely heavily on alcohol and drugs to create and cope, Staples shared a perspective of living sober that was largely centered on survival.

GQ profiled a handful of musicians of varying eras and genres who have struggled with drug and alcohol usage and are currently living clean. One of the most prominent members of this grouping of artists was Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, who said in the profile that he’s on his “fourth run” in getting clean. However, among the acts that were profiled for the piece, Staples was the one artist who has never indulged in drugs or drinking for reasons that were shaped by his tough Long Beach, Calif. upbringing.

From GQ:

“I am very sure that I’m gonna think different answers than Steven Tyler or anyone involved in this piece. I’ve lived a completely different life. What I’m saying is: The drug usage was the last thing on my mind. When you’re surrounded with death and dismay and poverty and all these things that happen every day, I didn’t have time to worry about using or partaking in certain things. People where I come from don’t use drugs in a recreational sense. We’re not at a party, or at the rock show, or at the rap show, doing lines in the bathroom. Where I come from, life comes day after day after day, and people use these things to cope. People use drugs as a coping mechanism, and I’ve always held that reality. Reality hurts, but so does addiction—it’s just which pain you choose.

Powerful stuff.

Check out the entire GQ’s profile examining the clean lives of nine musicians, including rock veteran Steven Tyler, here.

Gucci Mane on Drug Addiction: “Think About All These Rock n Roll Stars Before These Hip-Hop Stars.”

For most people jail is a major setback, but for some people like Gucci Mane, it was a second chance. The Atlanta rapper made a guest appearance on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio podcast and explained how being behind bars helped him beat his drug addiction.

But before speaking on his own addictions, he spoke about drug addiction in society on a larger scale. “It’s [drug use] never gonna go nowhere,” he told Lowe. “It’s going to always be like that. Drugs gonna always be a part of society. It’s going always be people fighting. It’s going to always be death. It’s just, you know, just what it is. It’s always going to be a part of music. Think about all these rock n roll stars before these hip-hop stars.”

For Guwop jail was an opportunity to get away from his addiction otherwise he thinks he would’ve been dead.

Further in the conversation, Gucci Mane spoke on his joint effort with the Migos and Lil Yachty.

“With the Glacier Boyz, you know, we just want to make the music doper,” Gucci told Lowe. “At the same time, I think we should encompass all the dope people that be around. We should involve Pablo. We should invite Baby. Marlo. We got so many dope artists Marlo, Lil Quill. I feel like it’s a family thing. It’s going to get done. It don’t take us long to record. We’ve been in the studio, but just like… look for it early in the spring.”

Lil Xan Admits He Still Struggles With Drug Addiction [Video]

Lil Xan In Concert - Charlotte, NC

Source: Jeff Hahne / Getty

Lil Xan emerged from the Soundcloud scene as one of the young rappers of this era that openly boasted of their use of drugs. In the wake of Mac Miller‘s alleged overdose death and the public struggles of Demi Levato, the 22-year-old rapper admits his struggles with addiction and is trying to get clean as he preps a new album dedicated to Miller.

TMZ reports:

Xan reached out to us Monday, a few hours after we broke the story about Mac’s cause of death — cocaine and fentanyl — and told us he’s not surprised the opioid was to blame. Xan said he was dealing pills years ago — before he got his break rapping — but says when fentanyl burst on the scene it scared him.

He says, “My friends were taking it, they were puking. I was like I can’t … I’m out the game.”

The 22-year-old rapper told us the deaths of Mac and his good friend Lil Peep, almost a year ago, made him curb his drug use, but says he’s still not clean. He got specific about which drug he’s struggling with now. Much like Demi, he says he’s gone through long periods of sobriety, but “I relapsed, and that’s common. Any other addict would understand that s**t just happens.”

As we reported, Lil Xan canceled a slew of tour dates recently, and while the official reason given was “exhaustion” … he told us his fight to kick drugs also played a role.

Lil Xan is prepping his upcoming album Be Safe while also recovering from his relapse in a remote location.

Get well, Xan.

In Wendy’s own words: “I lost a little over 10 years of my life regarding substance abuse, but I’m now going into Season 10 [of The Wendy Williams Show]. I’m married, I have a great career and a flourishing business…it’s not that you fall down, it’s how you rise. And if you rise, then you reach back. This is a reach back.”

As for her billboard, Page Six says it “features a split video of a promotion for the Wendy Show and Williams’ Hunter Foundation. Beneath the logo for her charitable foundation is a message encouraging people to donate to help fight addiction.” It will reportedly be up for three months. Click here to see it for yourself.

Wilder Valderrama AKA Fez From ‘That 70’s Show’ Holding Demi Lovato Down During Rehab

Demi Lovato has garnered support from family, friends, and her legion of fans as she continues her drug rehab treatment. In the midst of those gathering around the singer, ex-boyfriend Wilder Valderrama, best known for his role as Fez from That 70’s Show, has been by Lovato’s side during her ordeal.

TMZ reports:

TMZ has learned Demi quietly transferred from a rehab center on the East Coast to another facility that is world-renowned for its addiction programs. She’s been at that facility for more than a month, and Wilmer has flown there several times during visiting days to be with her.

Several people in a nearby town tell TMZ, they’ve seen Demi and Wilmer at a local Starbucks several times, and it appeared to people in the shop they were boyfriend/girlfriend.

We don’t know if they’re back together … what we do know is that Wilmer put everything on hold when Demi almost died from an opioid OD on July 24 and was a constant presence at the hospital, where she spent nearly 2 weeks.

While the news has yet to be confirmed by the pair if TMZ’s sources are correct, the move by Valderrama is nothing short of classy.
