Poundside Pop Said Meek Mill Tried to Sign Him for $10,000

Meek Millā€™s relationship with rising stars from Philadelphia is a little bit timid at the moment. After aiming to slow down some of the beef in his city, he was called out on his record, ultimately being banned from North Philly by Poundside Pop.

Pop is now pulling back the curtain on parts of his relationship with Meek Mill, revealing that at one point the offer to sign to Dream Chasers was on the table but the money was far from right.

Sitting down with Vlad, Pop revealed that Meek offered $10,000 for his signing, but that amount was not nearly enough.

“You know, you gotta come correct when you trying to sign somebody,” Pop said. “That ain’t work out right, basically.ā€

Pop revealed he and Meek were both in L.A. at the same time and hung out a bit and discussed the possibility.

“When the deal come, it’s for $10,000. A $10,000 deal, I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’ Fuck I’m supposed to do with this? I’m out in L.A.,” Pop said.

“I told him, ‘this ain’t enough. I’m fuckin’ with you but I ain’t feelin’ this jawn.’ He sent another one back for $20,000. I said, ‘Nah, I can’t do nothing with $20K, either. After taxes, it’s damn near $10,000.’”

Meek Mill Releases PSA Around Shooting of a Teen to Show Need of Relationship Building Between Communities and Police

Meek Mill and his DreamChasers label have unveiled a powerful Public Service Announcement on Antwon Rose II, an unarmed 17-year-old and honor roll student who was shot and killed by a police officer in East Pittsburgh on June 19, 2018.

The PSA features Rose’s mother, Michelle Kenney, in narration.

ā€œIā€™m very grateful that Meek Mill and the DreamChasers put this PSA together about Antwon and highlighted the need for universal respect,” Kenney said in a statement. “To make our communities better, we must show each other more love, care, generosity and empathy. Iā€™m proud that Meek is using his platform to send that positive message and honor my son.ā€

Meek created the PSA because he believes Rose’s story details the message he was conveying on his CHAMPIONSHIPS album in songs such as ā€œTraumaā€, ā€œChampionshipsā€ and ā€œOodles O’ Noodles Babies.ā€ Those songs detailed the issues that hit his hometown of Philadelphia and other inner cities across the country. The result of those issues has promoted him to advocate for change in the communities, targeting the criminal justice system.

ā€œMy hope is this PSA will inspire people to come together and create change in our communities,” Meek said in a statement. “Our country needs more communication and understanding ā€“ not hate and division ā€“ so itā€™s important that we collectively start the conversation and work to leave a lasting impact for future generations.ā€

This is the second PSA of The Responsibility Program and follows the initial PSA released by the Players Coalition in Early November on Danroy ā€œDJā€ Henry, the former Pace University football player who was fatally shot by a police officer on Oct. 17, 2010, in Mount Pleasant, N.Y.

The Responsibility Program is led by Team ROC – a philanthropic arm of Shawn ā€œJAY-Zā€ Carterā€™s entertainment company Roc Nation, which is partnering with different leaders and organizations to share the story of parents who parented children who were a victim of police brutality and gun violence.

Meek Mill releases New Hat Line at LIDS, Percentage of Sales to Benefit REFORM Alliance

Meek Mill has announced the limited-release launch of exclusive DreamChasers hat, available at Lids beginning Tuesday, November 26. A percentage of each DreamChasers hat purchase will go to the REFORM Alliance.

Meek is the co-chair of the REFORM Alliance, which advances criminal justice reform and eradicated outdated laws and policies that perpetuate injustice in the United States.

The Championships rapper is a co-founder of the organization alongside Michael Rubin, Shawn ā€œJAY-Zā€ Carter, Robert Kraft, Robert F. Smith, Clara Wu Tsai, Laura Arnold, Michael Novogratz, and Daniel S. Loeb.

ā€œHaving my own line with Lids is special, but Iā€™m especially proud that proceeds from this hat will be used to help fix the broken criminal justice system,ā€ said Mill, who is also the co-owner and creative director for LIDS. ā€œIā€™m grateful that our team at Lids was committed to making a hat thatā€™s stylish, but will go toward a greater cause.ā€

Meek announced his investment in LIDS back in June of this year, which brought him to an ownership group that also includes Fanatics and Ames Watson. In addition to ownership, he has dived into the LIDS strategy and will use his music industry standing for brand expansion.

You can see the DreamChasers limited-edition hat below.

Meek Millā€™s Criminal Case Closed, Prosecutors Wonā€™t Seek Retrial

Meek Mill pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to possessing a firearm without a license and all other charges against him were dropped, ending his legal issues that have lasted over a decade.

“I know this has been a long road for you and hopefully this will be the end of it,” Judge Leon Tucker said at the conclusion of the case.

NBC 10 in Philadelphia state city prosecutors cited Meek’s criminal justice reform advocacy and work in the community as additional reasons to close the case.

“He was adult enough to admit he had a gun, so we feel this is appropriate,” prosecutors said.

Outside of the city’s Justice Juanita Kidd Stout Center for Criminal Justice, Meek emerged to the “Rocky” theme song and spoke to the gathered crowd about becoming free for the first time in 12 years.

“I wanted to thank everybody whoever stood for me,” Mill said. “I’m very thankful from the bottom of my heart.”

Both sides of the case questioned officer Reginald Graham, who arrested Meek but has since has had a questionable past. The reputation of Genece Brinkley, the presiding judge over Meek’s case, was also called into question for questionable probation violations.

In July, the conviction was overturned and CNN commentator and REFORM Alliance representative Van Jones spoke out ensuring today’s justice.

ā€œWe are one step closer to justice. This hearing was an extraordinary moment where you have attorneys on both sides saying that a new trial should go forward,ā€ Jones said. ā€œI have been in criminal justice for 25 years, Iā€™ve never seen a district attorneyā€™s office calling for a new trial at the same time the defendant is calling for a new trial.

ā€œMeek Mill should have never been convicted in the first place. He was convicted on the testimony on a completely disgraced and discredited police officer.ā€

For the case, Meek Mill has spent two years in prison but now is free from return visits to court, Judge Brinkley and potential further prosecution.

Meek Millā€™s Conviction Is Overturned & He Is Off Of Probation

Today (July 24) in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania courthouse, Meek Mill’s 2008 conviction was overturned. After a hearing in the appeals court, the 32-year-old rapper will receive a new trial, as he tells his fans and supporters that he is no longer on probation. Following a 2007 arrest for drug and weapons charges, it marks the first time in more than a decade that the Maybach Music Group/Atlantic Records artist can claim that status. For the first time in more than 10 years, Meek’s future rests in the hands of a new judge. “The unanimous three-judge panel said that new evidence that undermines the credibility of the officer who testified against the rapper at his trial made it likely he would be acquitted if the case were retried,” reports The Associated Press. The hearing was confirmed early last month.

As of right now Iā€™m not on probation and I am not a felon anymore today was mega!!!

A post shared by Meek Mill (@meekmill) on

Meek Millā€™s Story Is Being Told In A Docuseries Produced By JAY-Z (Video) Philadelphia prosecutors stated in the hearing that they discredit the account of one witness from Meek’s 2007 arrest. Former Philadelphia Police Officer Reginald Graham, who wrote the ’07 search warrant and testified against Meek at trial, was dismissed from the force several years ago for theft and a subsequent coverup. “A police colleague who took part in the arrest later said Graham lied about Williams brandishing a gun,” writes the AP. Graham has also been the subject of a past FBI investigation. The appeals court also overturned the past rulings of Judge Genece Brinkley, who has been accused by Meek and his defense for showing unfavorable bias. In the court, Brinkley’s credibility to a now-discredited witnessed nullified her ruling. On social media, Meek considered today’s decision a victory, announcing that he was no longer a felon. Throughout the last few years, the North Philly rapper’s legal woes had prevented him from touring, appearances, and collaborationsā€”costing the chart-topper millions in revenue. Upon leaving prison early last year, Meek also told NBC’s Lester Holt how the limitations of his probation hurt him as a father and member of his family. Rappers Might Start Going To Jail Because Of Their Lyrics Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who has advocated on behalf of Meek in recent years, must decide if his office will drop the case altogether.

Yesterday (July 23), Meek and longtime collaborator/advocate JAY-Z announced a Roc Nation and Dreamchasers Records label partnership. To date, the label has included artists such as Omelly, Chino, and late New Orleans, Louisiana rapper Lil Snupe. Boss Moves: Meek Mill Launches Dream Chasers Label Via Roc Nation

2019 Roc Nation THE BRUNCH - Inside

Meek Mill has achieved plenty of success as a Hip-Hop artist and now he’ll be following in the footsteps of those who mentored him along the way. By way of Roc Nation, the Philadelphia rapper has launched his very own Dream Chasers label imprint.

As covered by Rolling Stone, the moment was solicited in the Manhattan offices of Roc Nation with Meek and Hov both in tow. Officially titled Dream Chaser Records, the label name shares the same one Meek created under Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group imprint, but the rapper says this is a refined approach to that earlier effort.

From Rolling Stone:

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the rapper says that the ā€œextra seven yearsā€ since the original venture have given him a fresh perspective and a time to ā€œgrow in business, period.ā€ ā€œI think the time is now,ā€ Meek says. ā€œIā€™m 32 years old, Iā€™m in a nice spot in the music business and I think itā€™s time for me to focus on growing artists because thatā€™s what I love to do. I love to spend time on helping artists grow, and I think itā€™s time for me to dive in, business-wise.ā€

As president of the Dream Chasers label under the Roc Nation brand, Meek will oversee a team in a corporate New York office and also help operate a recording studio for the labelā€™s artists. While the rapper noted that the label is ā€œstill in the beginning stageā€ and did not reveal specific signees, he hinted at forthcoming announcements later this year. Formal conversations with Roc Nation took place over the last few months, he said, but his partnership with Jay-Z ā€” ā€œthe snowplow that made it easier for me to walk through snowstorms,ā€ with regard to the influence of hip-hop in the broader culture ā€” has been years in the making.

Salute to Meek Mill for the boss move.

Tak W. Advises Artists to Expand Their Brand Outside of Social Media at Tweedlā€™s Digital Industry Panel

Tak W. also known as BarceliniĀ helped to build the record label and team, Dreamchasers. He has made cameos on some ofĀ Meek Millā€™s tracks. You can hear him on ā€œMoney Ainā€™t No Issue, ā€œYoung N***a Dreamsā€ and more. (DC)Ā  Dreamchasers Records was founded in 2012 by multi-platinum rapper, Meek Mill. TheĀ Dreamchasers mixtape series helped the Philadelphia rapper gain prominence, recognition and respect in Hip-Hop.

Prior to serving as President/A&R of Dreamchaser Records, Tak wasĀ Meekā€™s cameraman. As first cousins, the two Philly natives grew up together. The ā€œUptown Vibesā€ rapper noticed his cousinā€™s knack for taking pictures, so he purchased a camera with the hopes of expanding the teamā€™s visual content. That did not last long. The camera was stolen in a crowded dressing room at a Powerhouse show shortly after.

As you can probably assume, Meek was not happy at all.

Tak recalls being fired in the parking lot. The two can find humor in the situation today because they have come so far. Takbar credits Russell Simmons,Ā Master PĀ and Roc-A-Fella forĀ hisĀ influence. He recently sat on a Tweedl music panel with Mona Scott-Young, Tuma Basa and more. He emphasized the fact that an artist cannot solely rely on social media.

Today, Dreamchasers is currently strengthening their roster with the recent signing of Calboy to Dreamchaserā€™s management. The Chicago native rose to fame after the release of his hit single, ā€œEnvy Me.ā€ According to Tak, Meek was a fan of Calboy. After watching his growth, he made it a priority to add the 20-year-old rapper to the Dreamchasers family. ā€œEnvy Meā€ is now certified platinum and has peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. He also released his new EP,Ā Wildboy, which featuresĀ Meek Mill,Ā Young Thug,Ā Lil DurkĀ and more.

In addition, Tak has branched off into clothing. What started off as an inside joke, has now turned into his own personal brand, Barcelini. You can expect the launch as a unisex clothing line at the tail end of the year.
