D.I.T.C. Show They Are Still Juggernauts On A New Compilation Album (Audio)

Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads fight through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, is better than its ever been. Not only are we able to go back and listen to all of our favorites, at the click of a button, there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recent music—songs that have been released within the last year or so. We update it regularly, so, if you like what you hear, subscribe to follow us on Spotify. The Diggin’ In The Crates crew is one of the most trusted brands in Hip-Hop. This Bronx, New York-based outfit is responsible for introducing the world to Big L and Fat Joe, as well as assembling some of the most talented producers and MCs in the genre. This collective decorated the 1990s with acclaimed albums like Diamond D’s Stunts, Blunts And Hip Hop, Showbiz & A.G.’s Runaway Slave, O.C.’s Buckwild-produced Word…Life, Lord Finesse’s The Awakening, Joe Crack’s Represent, and Big L’s Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous. However, through shifting sounds and tragedies, D.I.T.C. has stayed consistent for the next 25 years too. Xzibit & Lord Finesse Go Hard In A Fat Beats Cypher (AFH TV Video) Recently, D.I.T.C. released another compilation with Show at the helm. D.I.T.C. Studios, Vol. 2 involves some core members of the collective, as well as affiliates such as Papoose, Milano Constantine, and David Bars. M.O.P.’s Lil Fame joins O.C. on “Juggaknots,” produced by Show. Over a sinister groove, O attacks the first verse while Fizzy Womack adds those menacing Mash Out ad-libs. “The flow’s serious / From years of experience,” spits the MC. Moments later, he salutes Big L. “This here’s a warning shot in the air, like when ya first heard ‘Da Enemy’ / See, I won’t stop / ‘Til I’m in the box / The flow’s by Lamont, call him the crown prince of The Immortals / Us.” He shouts out Wu-Tang Clan, D-Block, M.O.P., and his engineer, Parks (also of The Joe Budden Podcast). Fame takes on the bridge and the chorus. This Friday (December 6), Fat Joe is releasing Family Ties. The album features Eminem. In 2019, Diamond D dropped The Diam Piece 2 while O.C. dropped a compilation of rarities. Last week, Diamond told AFH that he is producing a full LP for Talib Kweli and dropped some footage. This month (December 20), Lil Fame is producing a Sean Price album, Price Of Fame. Big L & O.C. Freestyle In Croatia In 1997 And It’s The Joint (AFH TV) In addition to new music from D.I.T.C., the official AFH playlist includes new songs from Reason, Ab-Soul, Griselda, Brother Ali, The Game, Add-2, Anderson .Paak, Smoke DZA, Benny The Butcher, and Pete Rock, Gang Starr, J. 38 Spesh Displays Why OGs Like Kool G Rap, DJ Premier & D.I.T.C. Co-Sign Him (Video)

Rochester is not a city regularly associated with Hip-Hop. This Upstate New York burg is the home of DJ Green Lantern, who, along with Emilio Rojas, is one of the few artists from the area to make an impact on the game in the last two decades. But that is all changing with MCs like Eto, Pounds, Rigz, and especially 38 Spesh shaking up the scene in the last couple of years.

For those not familiar with Spesh, he actually entered the game almost 15 years ago, and became well known for anchoring Green Lantern mixtapes with street-struck demonstrations. However, he stepped away from rapping when Trap’s popularity rose. 38 reestablished himself in the streets, but around 2016 he started to see his homies like Benny The Butcher start to buzz. B.E.N.N.Y. had been signed to Special’s TCF Music Group before he moved over to Griselda Records.

Kool G Rap’s New LP Has Production From DJ Premier, Pete Rock & Alchemist. Listen Here (Audio)

This Flour City lyricist made a big splash last year by dropping no less than three collaboration albums. He teamed up with Buffalo badman Benny (Stabbed & Shot), Oakland mainstay Joe Blow (In The Mob We Trust), and most notably, he dropped a project with the legendary Kool G. Rap (Son Of G Rap), which impressed many fans of both.

In 2019, Spesh is out to make it readily apparent that he is one of the nicest on the mic and the MPC alike. He’s doing so by dropping a grip of projects. He has already released the 5 Shots EP, which he produced all of, and more importantly his highly anticipated 38 Strategies Of Raw, a follow up to his other Robert Greene-inspired full-length, 38 Laws Of Powder. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as he also has a compilation on the way from him and his TCF roster, the debut album from his female artist Che Noir, and he recently announced that a joint offering with D.I.T.C production is on the way.

Ghostface Killah’s The Lost Tapes Album Is Here. Listen Now (Audio)

The Trust Comes First CEO just hit Heads with the video for “Dark Nights,” and it perfectly illustrates his premier penmanship and laid back beats. The visuals highlight Rochester at the dead of night, while Spesh stunts in a hooded fur coat. From under the opulent cowl he raps, “See, I motivate black folks / To eat natural, stay away from meat and lactose / If it’s heat, we a clap toast / Keep that close / 150 shots at most / And I shoot for your afro / I learned the game from ni**as that’s on top, but they act broke / You get smoked for a pair of Nikes / ‘Cause you a parasite / You die easy, like Eric Wright / We read books when we wearing stripes / When you cherish life, you turn prison cells to a paradise / I came up from a pair of dice / Now I find myself preparing for flights, going anywhere I like / I’ma 1000 degrees Fahrenheit / But you compare us…like ni**as ain’t broke wearing generic ice.”

After years of paying dues, 38 Spesh is locked and loaded.

Today In Hip Hop History: The Source Magazine Remembers Big L 20 Years Later

On February 15, 1999, Hip Hop legend Lamont Coleman aka Big L was murdered at 45 West 139th Street in Harlem after being shot nine times in the face and chest in a drive-by shooting. Gerard Woodley, one of Big L’s friends who was shot in the head near the same street in 2016, was arrested three months later but was shortly released. The shooting was said to have been retaliation for something Big L’s older brother Lee Coleman did. Unfortunately, his murder case remains unsolved.

Big L began his career with the Hip Hop trio, Three the Hard Way. His first notable appearance came on Lord Finesse’s “Yes You May (Remix)”. He released his debut album, Lifestylez of da Poor & Dangerous, in 1995 and in 98′, he founded Flamboyant Entertainment, his own indie label, through which he released one of his most popular singles, “Ebonics”. His second studio album, The Big Picture, was put together by  his manager, Rich King, and released the year after his death. It went certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

A documentary is in the works titled Street Struck: The Big L Story. Big L is buried at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, New Jersey.
