New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio lifted the citywide curfew on Sunday morning. This was a day earlier than previously planned, The NY Post reports.
“Yesterday and last night we saw the very best of our city. Tomorrow we take the first big step to restart,” he during the briefing. “I made the decision to end the curfew, and honestly, I hope its the last time we ever need a curfew.”
There had been 5 days without property damage and only 4 arrests the previous day. Beginning today, June 8, de Blasio plans on starting Phase 1 of the four-part plan to end the coronavirus lockdown.
The curfew had been enacted last Monday after some protestors used the demonstrations to cause property damage and loot stores across the city. NYC was set to go into a final lockdown at 8 p.m. Sunday, and end at 5 a.m. Monday.
