Atlanta rapper 21 Savage is going to wait a little longer to learn his fate in a publicized immigration case. New reports claim the rap star’s deportation hearing is currently postponed.
According to reports, Sav’s attorney Charles Kuck has revealed the long-awaited court appearance did not go down this week.
At the moment, 21 Savage’s future is uncertain. His hearing, originally scheduled for April 9, has been postponed. Because he is no longer in detention, his case will go to a different group of judges, but Kuck says it won’t happen soon: “They don’t have enough nondetained judges, so his case is waiting to be assigned. I can’t give anybody, even him, a date as to when that might be.” (Billboard)
In February, Sav came forward to give his first Q&A since getting released from immigration detainment.
“I don’t even know [what happened]. I was just driving and I just seen guns and blue lights, and then I was in the back of a car and I was gone. They didn’t say nothing. They just said, ‘We got Savage.’ It was definitely targeted. …. I didn’t know what a visa was. I was seven when I first came here. I didn’t know what that meant as far as when I transferred into an adult, how that was going to affect my life. I wasn’t hiding it, but I didn’t wanna get deported, so I’m not gonna come out and be like, ‘Hey, by the way, I wasn’t born here.’” (“Good Morning America”)
Sav also explained his personal issues with the United States’ approach to immigration policies.
“I’ve been here 20 years, 19 years. This is all I know, you know what I’m saying? I don’t feel like you should be arrested and put in a place where a murderer would be for just being in the country for too long.” (“Good Morning America”)
21’s publicized release sparked major support from artists like T.I.
