Benny The Butcher Addresses Buffalo Massacre With “Welcome To The States” Music Video

Benny the Butcher Has Words for Fans Who Are Worried About Him Signing to Def Jam

The last month has been riddled with tragedy as mass shootings almost every week have led to increased conversations regarding gun laws, racism, and safety in the United States. Last month, a gunman opened fire in a Buffalo, NY grocery store parking lot, targeted, and killed 10 Black people. On Monday, June 6, Buffalo native, Benny the Butcher, dropped a remix of Kendrick Lamar’s “We Cry Together,” entitled “Welcome To The States.”

In the black and white music video, Benny addresses the Buffalo massacre with clips of people shopping at grocery stores, the American flag, KKK members, and police brutality before ending with an audio clip of Joe Biden’s address following the massacre.

“Through June 1st there have been at least 233 mass shooting incidents in 2022 in the United States,” the opening reads. “This means that the U.S. has recorded more mass shootings than there have been days in 2022, so far…”

“One of those shootings occurred in Buffalo, New York on May 14th, at a Top’s Friendly Market Store in Buffalo’s Eastside neighborhood. Ten people were killed that day. All 10 were African American.”

In the track, Benny raps “Mass shooting in my city, eight minutes from where my block at. Saw innocent people shot at a supermarket I shop at,” he raps, before ending the song with an audio clip from President Joe Biden’s speech addressing the shooting.”

Along with the video, Benny announced that he is helping raise money for the Buffalo Survivors Fund. Benny teamed up with designers Kat & Nolan Cartwright for a limited-run t-shirt that honors the ten victims. You can purchase the t-shirt now via the Black Soprano Family website for $40. All proceeds will go directly to the fund.

Dave Chappelle Announces He Will Donate Proceeds From Buffalo Show To Families Of Shooting Victims

Dave Chappelle Tests Positive for COVID-19

Dave Chappelle closed out his set on Sunday at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo by announcing that the proceeds from the show will go to the families of the 10 victims of the racially motivated mass shooting that occurred on May 14th.

“He said, and I’m paraphrasing, I came here to Buffalo to recognize the victims and for these families,” said Kevin Sweeney, director of marketing and communications for Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

Chappelle’s show was extremely last minute, with tickets having gone on sale Thursday morning. Chappelle ended up selling out the 3,019 seat venue in just an hour. Among those in attendance were members from the families of the 10 victims of May 14ths mass shooting. They were personally invited by Chappelle.

Payton Gendron, the 18-year-old white supremacist, is currently facing 10 counts of first-degree murder, 10 counts of second-degree murder as a hate crime, 3 counts of attempted murder as a hate crime, one for domestic terrorism motivated by hate, and a weapons charge for the murder of 10 Black people in the parking lot of a Tops grocery store in Buffalo.

After the mass shooting, authorities found Gendron’s diary where he wrote about wanting to livestream an attack on Black people. The entries in the journal also read that Gendron targeted that specific grocery store because many Black people shopped there.
