If you want a master class in getting free publicity than 50 Cent is the only guru you need. It seems he is giving a lot of game in his forthcoming book.

As spotted on Page Six Fofty has a new written work in the pipeline that intends to advance your approach to winning in the boardroom and in life. According to the G-Unit mogul he had an interesting interaction with one of his biggest bulls-eyes. In a snippet from Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter he details the time Gayle King stepped to him over his never ending criticism of her best friend Oprah Winfrey. At a Bette Midler Foundation event she reported asked him “Why you talking sh*t about my girl?”.

While the masses thought he was just getting his troll on (he named his dog Oprah) he explained to the broadcast journalist that he has an end goal with every move he makes. “Listen, I’d love to be Oprah’s friend,” he replied to Gayle. “But if we can’t be friends, could we at least be enemies?”

But fast forward to 2012 50 and Winfrey reported settled their differences in person during an installment of Oprah’s Next Chapter. He went to reveal the game plan in baiting the media maven. “Before meeting me, they had bought into the 50 Cent persona … Someone who got into beefs and drama because he just couldn’t help himself,” he wrote. “But when I said, ‘At least let me be an enemy,’ they understood that when I got into a beef, it was never driven by emotion. Instead, I was moving off of strategy.”

Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter will be available for purchase April 28.

Exclusive: Here’s Your First Look at the Cover For Rakim’s New Memoir ‘Sweat The Technique’

When anyone who respects and understands the culture of Hip-Hop refers to Rakim as “The God MC,” there’s never any real debate to challenge that bestowment. The reason? He literally is the greatest lyricist of all time and would have no problem proving that today in or out the booth, on or off the stage, at the wise age of 51 years old.

However, if you still need a crash course on his legendary stature in the rap game, all you have to do is read his new memoir, Sweat The Technique: Revelations On Creativity From The Lyrical Genius, which The Source is exclusively unveiling the cover for today.

Amistad Press / HarperCollins Publishers

As the official description states, Sweat the Technique is a “part memoir, part writing guide” penned by the rap pioneer alongside seasoned journalist Touré. The book details how Rakim influenced and even changed the way rappers actually rhymed, his intrinsic skills that helped make a certified classic debut album alongside Eric B. with their 1987 magnum opus Paid in Full and ultimately his journey from a young Black man hailing from Long Island with nothing but a dream and talent into the most respected MC of his era.

So, why now? Sure there’s a market for rap memoirs at the moment — JAY-Z’s classic Decoded, Common’s eye-opening Let Love Have the Last Word and My Famous Life by the late Prodigy of Mobb Deep are all gems — but what makes this moment so special for Rakim? We’ll leave it to the man himself to tell it via this exclusive quote he gave us to go with the cover reveal:

“Why now for ‘Sweat The Technique‘? There’s been a lot of points of reflection in my life over the last couple of years. I turned 50; my first album turned 30. I’ve welcomed some new editions to my family and lost some beloved ones. I got back together with my partner Eric to tour and release a box set and, while we were doing interviews, the same questions all seemed to come up. A lot of those questions were rehashes of some issues that I wanted to finally speak about and, more importantly, almost none of them covered what my fans and supporters are always asking….which is pretty much ‘How do you do it?’ It made sense to put a little focus on the craft and where I, and hopefully the readers, can search for inspiration. After over three decades of being an artist who mostly speaks through his music, the time felt right to pull back the curtain.”

Rakim, The God MC

Get your reading glasses out — this one definitely sounds like it will make for a good read! Sweat The Technique: Revelations On Creativity From The Lyrical Genius, the prolific new memoir by Rakim, goes on sale starting September 24.

Take a #ThrowbackThursday moment with us by watching our Source TV interview with The God MC from 2010 below:

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Ask Fans To Give Veganism A Try In New Book

Hip-Hop’s power couple are doubling down on the “health is true wealth” mantra. The Carter’s are challenging their fans to keep the flesh off their plate.

As reported by Billboard Beyoncé and JAY-Z are encouraging the masses to embrace a plant based diet to kick off the new year. Her physical trainer Marco Borges has written a new book titled The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World and has received a major cosign from the power couple in terms of the introduction.

In the forward Hov and Bey detailed how becoming parents has changed their lifestyle choices specifically what goes in their system. “Having children has changed our lives more than anything else. We used to think of health as a diet – some worked for us, some didn’t. Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible” they explained.

Obviously the suggestive lead-in will prompt some to question their true intentions so they made sure to let the reader know the choice is ultimately theirs. “We are not about promoting any one way of living your life. You decide what’s best for you.” They do go on to provide some truths that support their endorsement. “The facts about a plant based diet eating are hard to ignore. The benefits of a single plant-meal per day can have a profound impact our health and environment.”

They closed their section out by asking everyone to give veganism a chance. “We want to challenge you, as we challenge ourselves, to move toward plant-based foods. Let’s take this stand together. Let’s spread the truth. Let’s make this mission a movement. Let’s become ‘the Greenprint’”.

You can purchase Borges’ book here.
