The Ella Mai “Boo’d Up” train is still moving strong. According to Rated RnB, the London star’s breakout single has officially become 7x platinum. The achievement comes days after the announcement of her forthcoming album season.
Ella Mai revealed back in December that her new album was finished. Doubling back with more news, Ella Mai announced her new single “DFMU” for this Friday, Jan. 28.
Last August, Ella Mai hit Twitter sharing images from a tropical location where she is currently creating her next release. Captioned “a bucket list type of week,” Mai would then share images with Pharrell and J.Cole.
R&B singer Ella Mai is still soaking in the success of her “Boo’d Up” smash hit. The crooner has dished on piecing together the summer anthem and all the mainstream attention it received.
“My favorite was the official one we put out with Nicki and Quavo. But I liked all of them honestly. T-Pain killed it. I think Fab killed it. Music is personal preference – I think everyone killed it but to be fair I wasn’t expecting everyone to jump on it – Plies did one too that was really cool. So just to have people do it organically because they loved the song so much was really cool to me. I think Dave East did one too.” (“The Breakfast Club”)
Ella also revealed if she’s currently on the open market or if she’s in a relationship.
“No,” Ella revealed when asked if she’s boo’d up herself. “I get asked that all the time. I get asked that all the time. It’s expected.” (“The Breakfast Club”)
Ella Mae drops off her new video for the “Boo’d Up” follow up.
On Tuesday, Ella Mae dropped a music video for her newest single, “Trip.” The song speaks to Mae’s feelings after being “Boo’d Up” for the summer. With “Trip” she’s feeling the need to fall back after possibly catching feeling too early. While “Boo’d Up” featured a male co-star, “Trip” does not. Instead, it features the 10 Summers artist solo. She sits calmly on the couch, in the car, and on the court as she sings the soft, sensual lyrics. “Trip” follows a successful summer for the British artist.
Last month she rapped up her 15 city US tour. Her debut track has spent 24 weeks on the Hot 100 charts, peaking at number 5 for two weeks. In addition, the single has been certified double platinum. There has been no word on Mae’s debut album, but you can assure that an announcement will be made soon. With the early, warm reception from “Trip,” Mae looks to perpetuate her Summer success into the Fall.
Her most recent track caught the attention of “London” crooner, Jacquees. The Atlanta artist is renowned for remixing R&B joints and making them his own. He calls it a “Quemix,” and he did no different with “Trip.” Jacquees’ remix could possibly lead to a collaboration with the 24-year-old British artist. The possibility only excites R&B fans. Hopefully, the remix foreshadows that the two singers will work together soon. Be sure to peep Ella Mae’s new visual as well as Jacquees’ “Quemix.”
