Take a Trip With Dillon & Batsauce on the Lyric Video for Their New Single, ”Ready On The Left” Feat. Kool Keith

Buckle up and get ready to take a trip with Dillon & Batsauce in their new lyric video, “Ready on the Left,” that features avant-garde rap legend Kool Keith.

The video centers on what appears to be vintage found footage of Chevrolet Bonaventure marketing materials, and yes, it’s every bit as weird as you could imagine that would be. It was all put together by both Dillon and Batsauce, who played into the aesthetic of the cover art for their upcoming album, What Have We Done.

But it’s also a lyric video, which means we can get closer to unpacking the wordplay used by Dillon and his esteemed guest, Kool Keith. Or you can just vibe along with the track and pick up on some of the slick lines here and there, like Keith rocking a Knicks jersey in a limo and Dillon wanting to indulge in his preferred vices.

Check it out and head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to support. The duo’s new album, What Have We Done, drops July 12 through Full Plate on DSPs, vinyl, CD, and cassette, and is available now for pre-order via Bandcamp

Dillon & Batsauce Deliver Spy vs. Spy Themed Animated Visuals for New Single, ”Banana Peels”

Dillon & Batsauce embody the energy of Mad Magazine’s Spy vs. Spy’s comic strip in the clever and unique new video released last week for “Banana Peels,” which features animation by Batsauce himself.

“This classic comic was something my Pop loved and passed on to me,” Dillon explains. He adds that Spy vs. Spy reminds him of today’s rap game, because it’s full of people who look, act, and sound the same, all while trying to sabotage each other. “Myself included, I guess,” he says while laughing, “Though I’m too old for that.”

Dillon knew that his collaborator, producer Batsauce, would be up for the video’s theme as a former art teacher who happened to learn animation during the pandemic. He also created a Spy vs. Spy-themed beat tape years ago, so everything really just fell into place for these visuals. To top it all off, the track itself has a menacing, old-school super villain sound to it, making it the perfect canvas for Batsauce to do his thing.

Check out the visuals and head over to your preferred streaming platform to support. The duo’s new album, What Have We Done, drops July 12 through Full Plate on DSPs, vinyl, CD, and cassette, and is available now for pre-order via Bandcamp

Dillon & Batsauce Announce New Album With Their Funk-Fueled Single, “Cannonball” Ft. Grand Puba

Underground hip-hop veterans, Dillon and Batsauce have been making unorthodox rap music together for nearly 20 years with a simple formula: Batsauce makes the beats, Dillon writes the songs, and whatever happens, happens. After carving out their own lane with a catalog of EPs and LPs over the past two decades, the duo has finally slowed down enough to ask themselves, “what have we done”?

Is the title of their latest effort rhetorical or meant to be an actual question? If so, Dillon and Batsauce probably don’t want to know the answer. They probably don’t want you, the listener to think too much about it either. Instead, What Have We Done is an invitation to experience the trials and tribulations, the small wins and the big losses of being aging independent artists in an increasingly cut-throat world for music makers.

But Dillon & Batsauce aren’t the only ones on this joyride, we also hear from a well-curated crew of characters they’ve befriended along the way, from bonafide legends like Grand Puba and Kool Keith to modern day rap heroes, Quelle Chris & Reef the Lost Cauze. The end result  is a collection of songs that runs the gamut from personal to aspirational to … delusional.  Whether it’s “too much’”or “not enough,” the answer to the question, “what have we done?” remains open to interpretation. Perhaps it’s not a question at all, but merely the naturally visceral reaction when career creators look back at a life lived on the edge.

What Have We Done is due out July 12 via Full Plate. In addition to hitting DSPs, the album will be available on vinyl, CD, and cassette, with various merch available including T-shirts and collectable keychains. In the meantime, head over your preferred streaming platform to support the Grand Puba assisted single,  “Cannonball, “ a funk-infused banger where Dillon and the legendary emcee trade verses and clever wordplay about relationships, wack rappers, and everything in between over Batsauce’s infectious production.

Qwazaar & Batsauce – Still Here feat. Qwel, Denizen Kane (Typical Cats) & Willie Evans Jr. (Video Premiere)

Check out this new music video, premiering on UGHHBLOG, by true underground Hip Hop heavyweights Qwazaar & Batsauce titled “Still Here” featuring Typical Cats members Qwel, Denizen Kane & Willie Evans Jr.  The visuals were animated by Batsauce himself. The muted colors and educational video-esque graphics in the video bear a striking resemblance to Electric Company’s trippy animated shorts from the ’70s.

Many know Qwazaar from his work with his crew Typical Cats. This five-man collective were highly regarded in the underground when they came on the scene in the early ’00s. However, this Chicago emcee has been just as prolific when partnered with the world-travelling beatsmith known as Batsauce. The two met in Berlin in 2008 when Bat was living there and Qwa was on tour. Since then the duo have released three projects, and for the last year or two, they’ve been working on a fourth titled “Stoned Giant.”

Today marks the release of not only the “Stoned Giant” LP but also the video for the album’s second single “Still Here”! The song is a reunion of sorts, as Qwel and Denizen Kane of Typical Cats both join Qwa on the track. Further, Willie Evans Jr. (formerly of Asamov) also throws down a guest verse to make it a proper posse cut.
