Late ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek’s Wardrobe to Be Donated to Homeless Organization For Interviews

Late Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek's Wardrobe to Be Donated to Homeless Organization For Interviews

Various items that used to belong to Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek was donated to The Doe Fund by his family and the show.

The organization provides paid work, housing, vocational training, continuing education, and comprehensive social services to underserved Americans with histories of addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.

Trebek’s son, Matthew, suggested to distribute the clothes to participants in the reentry program.

“During his last day on set, Alex extolled the virtues of everyone opening up their hands and their hearts to those who are suffering,” said Mike Richards, Executive Producer, Jeopardy!. “Donating his wardrobe to those who are working to rebuild their lives is the perfect way to begin to honor that last request.”

Alex Trebek’s final inventory consisted of:

  • 58 dress shirts
  • 14 suits
  • 300 neckties
  • 25 polo shirts
  • 14 sweaters
  • 9 sports coats
  • 9 pairs of dress shoes
  • 15 belts
  • 2 parkas
  • 3 pairs of dress slacks.

“We are so grateful for Jeopardy! and the Trebek family’s commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable among us,” said Harriet McDonald, President of The Doe Fund. “The men in our career training programs are always in need of professional attire, so they can shine in their job interviews and work with confidence once they’re hired. This donation alleviates the obstacle of not having appropriate clothing.”

Harriet continued, “We understand the enormous loss Matt and Jean are going through, as well as their incredible resilience in the face of hardship. Last week, The Doe Fund’s Founder and President of 35 years, my husband George McDonald, passed away. I’m thankful that George got to see Alex’s suits delivered to the people we serve before he left us. This generous gift honors the legacies of both men, and I know they’re smiling down on us.”

Alex Trebek passed away in November 2020 after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. His final episodes were aired and various temporary guest hosts have been filling the void.

Alex Trebek Pledges $100K to Los Angeles Homeless Shelter

Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek, donated $100,000 to help people suffering from homelessness in Los Angeles.

His generous donation went to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, an organization “focused on preventing, reducing and eliminating poverty, hunger and homelessness.”

The organization’s founder and CEO, Ken Craft, recalls the moment the 79-year-old gave him the check. “I hope this helps a little bit.”

“I don’t normally do this, but I wanted to bring these two people on stage because they are making a difference in LA,” Trebek said as he invited Craft and his wife on stage.

Alex Trebek will be known for his philanthropic work in addition to his long-running show.

He is currently battling pancreatic cancer and he told ABC News: “I have learned something in the past year and it’s this: We don’t know when we’re going to die. Because of the cancer diagnosis, it’s no longer an open-ended life, it’s a closed-ended life because of the terrible…survival rates of pancreatic cancer. Because of that, and something else that is operating here, people all over America and abroad have decided they want to let me know now, while I’m alive, about the impact that I’ve been having on their existence.”

Alex Trebek Reveals his Pancreatic Cancer is ‘Near Remission’

Earlier in the year, Alex Trebek announced that he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. After revealing the news in March, he returned to work about a week later.

It’s with pleasure to announce that the Jeopardy!host’s cancer is “near remission” according to an interview with People Magazine.

“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” he said of his positive response to chemotherapy so far. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

He’s not completely in the clear yet, but he’s heading in a good direction and the good news brought him “tears of joy.” He said, “I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers. I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”

There has been an outpour of support for Alex Trebek since his announcement. “I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayer, and I will never ever minimize the value of that,” he added.

If you haven’t sat around your living room television set yelling out answers during a broadcast of Jeopardy! then you’ve totally missed out. The longtime host of the show, Alex Trebek, announced this week that he is battling cancer but is gamely facing the disease and will continue the show.

In a prepared video issued via the show’s YouTube page, Trebek, 78, announced Wednesday (March 6) that he has stage IV pancreatic cancer. Typically, a diagnosis of that sort is considered a poor one but Trebek joked that he intends to fight the disease and that he just signed a contract extension that takes his job into 2022.

Trebek, who has appeared almost 8,000 times on the series since it was revived in 1984, is originally a native of Sudbury, Ontario. Before Jeopardy!, he was a newscaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation before taking his talents to America in the early ’70s.
