While things are starting to look even bleaker by the day there are some positives that are coming out of this health crisis. The Big Apple is letting their citizens go on the run drinking.

The Daily News is reporting that with change comes more change. In light of the Coronavirus Gotham State has laid some new rules when it comes to public places. Starting Monday, March 16 all restaurants and bars will not to be able to offer on premise consumption of their menus to patrons; only takeout and delivery services. Naturally the rationale behind the decision was understood as government officials are trying to slow down the outbreak.

Nevertheless some folks are already getting cabin fever thus the ban received a stern response from individuals who are social life deficient. But those that are missing the scene and do not know how to make their own sangria are in luck. According to the article now customers will be able to take booze home along with food.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo detailed the move during a recent press conference. “However, there is a silver lining for these establishments, because we’re also very aware of the economic consequences for these establishments” he said. “Whatever you could order in the bar or restaurant or distillery or winery you can purchase through takeout, and we hope that goes a long way towards alleviating any economic hardship. We will only allow it during this period of closure, but I think it will help those businesses.”

We will toast to that.

Liver Check: Black Twitter Discusses Hood Classic Cocktail Incredible Hulk

The awakening is stressful

Source: blackCAT / Getty

For those who imbibe and are of a certain age, there are many drink combos that should have never made it to our lips. One of those hood classics is the Incredible Hulk, a mixture of Hennessy and Hyptoniq that, when combined, created a greenish drink and Black Twitter has seemingly rediscovered it.

Internet blogger and YouTube personality @dontihammond shared a tweet Friday afternoon (Jan. 17) quizzing Twitter on what the drink was called via featuring a bottle of the Hen-Rock and the smurf juice on the side, with a complete cocktail chilling on ice.

Those who remember the green-tinged headache inducer immediately chimed in to answer what the drink was, and of course, Black Twitter has the cocktail trending with hilarious commentary and jokes. The drink was a favorite of the early 2000s, and apparently, it got its start on an Army base if the following Wikipedia entry is true.

From Wikipedia:

The drink was created originally by U.S Army soldiers at Ft. HOOD Texas in 2004. It was made renowned at a Hpnotiq launch event by a restaurant bartender at Sean Combs’ New York City restaurant, Justin’s. A Hpnotiq employee (Hpnotiq spokesperson Antonio Harer) noticed many women but few men drinking his company’s liquor, because the men considered the blue, fruity drink to be too effeminate. Victor Alvarez, a bartender at the restaurant, mixed Hennessy with Hpnotiq to dilute the fruity flavor, resulting in a green beverage that quickly became a hit

It isn’t known if that entry is true or not, yet the Incredible Hulk remains as one of the drinks that current oldheads downed in droves back in the days and most likely regretted every decision made thereafter.

We’ve collected some of the best responses to the trending topic below.

DMX Discusses Moving Forward With Drug Sobriety

Today (January 29), DMX gave one of his first interviews since leaving Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in Glenville, West Virginia on Friday morning (January 24). The 48-year-old rapper was in California as a guest on Big Boy’s Neighborhood. The veteran radio and TV personality has released some clips from their conversation. Notably, DMX discussed his sobriety after a tax evasion sentence that began last March. At the time, a New York judge ordered that the rapper born Earl Simmons spend a year behind bars after he failed mandatory drug tests tied to previous charges. While X had remained at large to help pay back his tax debts, Jed Rakoff felt as though the former superstar needed the personal rehabilitation. Kurupt Explains How He & DMX Made Peace 20 Years After Their Beef Over Foxy Brown (Video) On Tuesday, X told Big Boy that he is not using drugs. “I don’t do anything,” DMX stated. “I’ll have a drink here and there. That was never a problem,” he says, repeating the second sentence. “That’s about it.” Big Boy asks the Ruff Ryders MC what the problem was. “Cocaine. Crack,” he says in a powerful clip. As Big Boy replies, X interrupts, “I think we kinda knew that was the problem. Anybody in here that didn’t know? Of course, it was a problem. I got in trouble and all that sh*t. It’s not worth it. I spent too much time doing things. It’s just not worth it.”

DMX also condemned Rap music that promotes some of the toxins that he is trying to overcome. “It all promotes drug use. If that’s what you want to do, that’s your business. But you ain’t gotta promote it like it’s cool, and make it cool. Then kids [are] walking around [saying], ‘I’m poppin’ Molly’s, I’m poppin’ Percs.’ Ayo.”

For Vince Staples, Sobriety Also Meant Survival

Vince Staples GQ Sober Musicians

Source: Michael Schmelling / GQ

Vince Staples has only lived for a quarter of a century, but he’s already cemented his place as a cultural commentator along with his formidable musical contributions. Given that many artists of his generation rely heavily on alcohol and drugs to create and cope, Staples shared a perspective of living sober that was largely centered on survival.

GQ profiled a handful of musicians of varying eras and genres who have struggled with drug and alcohol usage and are currently living clean. One of the most prominent members of this grouping of artists was Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, who said in the profile that he’s on his “fourth run” in getting clean. However, among the acts that were profiled for the piece, Staples was the one artist who has never indulged in drugs or drinking for reasons that were shaped by his tough Long Beach, Calif. upbringing.

From GQ:

“I am very sure that I’m gonna think different answers than Steven Tyler or anyone involved in this piece. I’ve lived a completely different life. What I’m saying is: The drug usage was the last thing on my mind. When you’re surrounded with death and dismay and poverty and all these things that happen every day, I didn’t have time to worry about using or partaking in certain things. People where I come from don’t use drugs in a recreational sense. We’re not at a party, or at the rock show, or at the rap show, doing lines in the bathroom. Where I come from, life comes day after day after day, and people use these things to cope. People use drugs as a coping mechanism, and I’ve always held that reality. Reality hurts, but so does addiction—it’s just which pain you choose.

Powerful stuff.

Mac Miller Cause of Death Revealed: Fentanyl, Cocaine, Alcohol Overdose

Mac Miller’s untimely death caught us all by surprise in September. All we knew is that he died from a drug overdose, up until now.

The L.A. County Coroner’s Office released its toxicology findings, and according to the report Mac died from “mixed drug toxicity,” including cocaine, fentanyl, and alcohol. The coroner said his death was an accidental overdose.

TMZ reports that Miller’s assistant found him the following morning after a wild party in a “praying position,” and he was already blue according to the assistant during the 911 call. There was a 1/4 abrasion on his nose, and he was bleeding from one nostril. Additionally, an empty bottle of alcohol was found near his body, and in his right pocket there was a rolled up $20 bill with powdery white residue on it. There were also two baggies of white powder, and a “linear white powdery residue” on the iPad in his home studio.

The coroner says there wasn’t a lethal amount of drugs, but it’s the combination that killed Mac Miller.
