The last of the stand-up street dudes in the rap game was arrested five years ago today.

On this date in 2014, Bobby Shmurda, along with his brother Javese, GS9 labelmate Rowdy Rebel and 14 others with numerous charges, including assault, gun possession, and attempted murder. Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Jean Pollard, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment and drug and gun possession. Shmurda was held on a $2 million bail and was unable to be released after several attempts by his lawyer to put a package together that the prosecuting attorney and the judge would agree on.

In September 2016, Pollard took a plea deal, pleading guilty to one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession and was sentenced to seven years in prison. His partner Rowdy Rebel avoided 12 years behind bars and also received seven years after Shmurda agreed to take the seven years instead of just the five-year sentence.

Shmurda’s conditional release date was December 11, 2020, however, he is scheduled for a parole hearing in August 2020.

With Tekashi going for sentencing tomorrow in his case and could possibly be walking after becoming a cooperating witness, Bobby Shmurda may very well be the last of the stand-up rappers. Thanks for being a part of Hip Hop history!
