XXXTentacion was Posthomously Awarded Best New Artist at 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards

While XXXTentacion passed away in the Summer, it’s apparent that we’ll be talking about his brief but influential career for a while. The BET Hip-Hop Awards recognized the questionable rapper by awarding him Best New Artist.

A video from inside The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater demonstrates X’s mom Cleopatra Bernard accepting the honor on her late son’s behalf. She was joined by X’s manager, Solomon Sounds, and his lawyer, Bob Celestin. The “Moonlight” rapper beat out Rich The Kid, Juice WRLD, Lil Baby and Drake co-signed Blocboy JB for the award.

The honor wasn’t the only time that X’s essence was felt in the room. As per DJ Scheme, Vic Mensa tackled the late rapper during the cypher.

“Yo bro how u gone say ‘Your favorite rapper is an abuser’ and then follow it with a line saying ‘some shit X some shit so I won’t live long’ u can deny it but everyone who was there heard that shit,” he wrote on Twitter.

Considering that X’s family was in participation (and Scheme’s very own closeness to X), it’s anything but difficult to perceive how he could feel that making a punchline out of the late rapper was over the line. Mensa has not reacted to the tweets.
