This week, Washington Nats’ pitcher Marquis Grissom Jr., son of 2X All Star and World Series champion Marquis Grissom Sr., has decided to share his musical taste courtesy of Black Baseball Mixtape.

Grissom Jr., who is currently the Nationals organization’s #28 prospect, pitched his entire first full season as a closer for Single-A Fredericksburg, racking up 11 saves while earning a 2.18 ERA with 39 Ks in 41 1/3 innings. He opened 2024 in the High-A Wilmington bullpen and moved up to Double-A Harrisburg after dominating the South Atlantic League.

The 6-foot-2 RHP shows average velocity around the 92-94 mph range, but can run his fastball up to 96-97 too. The standout pitch, however, is easily his low-80s changeup. Not only does the pitch get solid separation from the average heater, but it also fades nicely to Grissom’s armside, leading to some funky swings by left-handed hitters. He held lefties to a .448 OPS during his time with Wilmington, compared to .550 for righties.

As for Grissom’s audible palate, the L.A. born/Atlanta-bred righty doesn’t really go for too many commercialized artists with the exception of Future and Metro Boomin, preferring artists such as Detroit’s Veeze and Cash Kidd, as well as Philly’s Argo and Alabama favorite NoCap. Check out his short but solid selection of hits below courtesy of the good people at Black Baseball Mixtape!
