Scooter Braun Says His Family Has Received Death Threats Due to the Legal Battle for Taylor Swift’s Masters

Scooter Braun is replying to backlash and social media hate targeted against him stemming from his legal battle with Taylor Swift over the rights to her recordings. Braun has detailed “there have been numerous death threats” directed toward his family after Swift wrote an open letter about being unable to perform certain songs at the upcoming American Music Awards.

Music Business Worldwide details Big Machine Records and Braun were blocking her from performing her chart-topping hits of yesteryear at the awards show this Sunday (Nov. 24) due to a legal re-recording restriction.

Swift is now cleared to perform her back catalog, despite the possibility of the live recordings being released and becoming a new set of Masters.

“As the world now knows you can and should perform any song you would like at the AMAs. I have never and would never say otherwise,” Braun writes. “You do not need anyone’s permission to do so legally but I am stating it here clearly and publicly so there is no more debate or confusion.”
