ScHoolboy Q is giving props to Drake.
Fresh off the release of his new album CrasH Talk, Groovy Q stopped by Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning” (via Complex) on Friday, where he called Drake “one of the greats.”
Host Peter Rosenberg asked whether Drizzy was underrated as a rapper to which Q responded, “Yes, I feel like he’s one of the greats.” He then went on to call out the “dweebs” for their criticism of hip-hop. “Don’t nobody listen to no dweeb,” said Q. “You are in this culture. Respect it. We don’t go over to the rock culture and country and be trying to critique.”
He continued to defend Drake against his critics. “How are you sayin’ somebody sold out? You don’t even know what sold out is in this culture. Drake is one of the greats. Drake be gassin’, bro.”
“If Drake is trash, you ni**as stop giving him 50 billion streams. You get what I’m saying? ‘Cause y’all all listening to it, bruh. It’s too many streams, bruh. Y’all listening to it, y’all just don’t want to say it.”
While Drake’s background may make him susceptible to criticism, Q says you can’t deny his talent. “He tight, bro. When you just light-skinned and from Canada, ni**as wanna, you know—but the n***a hard, c’mon, man.”
During the 50-minute interview, Q also revealed his favorite rappers by decades including the ’80s (Ice Cube and Dr. Dre), ’90s (Nas), ’00s (50 Cent), and ’10s (Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Black Hippy, and himself).
Plus, he shared his thoughts on 6ix9ine (“You need ni**as like Tekashi because he’s the lesson that shows other kids…what not to do”) and the murder of Nipsey Hussle. “I was so disappointed in black people, period,” he said. “That was probably the low of all lows I’ve seen in a long, long time.”
