Detroit rapper Royce Da 5’9 made sure to let JW Lucas know his cancellation from the culture was inevitable. The hip-hop veteran went online this week to reach out to the controversial producer about making shocking and disgusting comments about the slaying of Kentucky Black woman Breonna Taylor.
Royce 5’9 Warned JW Lucas
Heading into Friday, 5’9 went to his social media pages to actually hit up JW. In addition to tagging his Instagram handle, Royce promised Lucas he would feel a mighty wrath for one of his Taylor tweets.
“You’re signing up for “That Life” right now @jwlucas702 and I promise you this post wasn’t a good idea…” -Royce Da 5’9’s Instagram
Royce didn’t end things there. 5’9 also shared throwback footage of JW doing an interview and speaking on a slew of racially-motivated topics.
“🤦🏿♂️ Which one of y’all had the patience to sit up in the studio and make a whole record with this Bozo….” -Royce Da 5’9
High-Key Details
On Thursday, activist Tamika Mallory fully went in on hip-hop producer JW Lucas – who is known for producing songs for DaBaby and Lil Uzi Vert – after he made racist comments about Breonna in a series of tweets. She refused to let Lucas put any dirt or disrespect on the memory of Taylor.
Shortly before the above video, Mallory went into an Instagram Live with Lucas. She vowed to let all of JW’s hip-hop affiliates know he has a racist outlook of the world.
Within the video’s comments, various hip-hop artists and celebrities spoke up in her defense.
“That boy dun just crossed the line… You ain’t gotta say nothing else @tamikadmallory” -Royce Da 5’9
“We w you 1000% @tamikadmallory” -Matt Barnes
“Folks really should monitor their tone when talking to Queen Mallory……” Charlamagne Tha God
“This wasnt ok..” -Mysonne
Wait, There’s More
The drama ultimately stems from JW Lucas going onto his Twitter page to speak on Breonna Taylor. Lucas questioned the world’s push to have the officers responsible for her murder and even tried to paint her in a negative light.
Before You Go
In September 2018, JW Lucas came forward to speak on his issues with racial categories. He pitched the idea of people looking beyond race and realizing skin color shouldn’t make a difference across the globe.
“When I say I want to dead races, it’s because if you don’t identify race, then there’s no racism and inequality – it’s color. I’m the hardest dude you’ve ever met in your life – on God, I’ll say, I’m white, who gives a f*ck what color I am? Skin color means nothing, bro.” (Producer Grind Podcast)
Despite Lucas’ downplaying of Breonna Taylor’s life and cause of death, the hip-hop community has continued to push for justice. Rap stars including Meek Mill and T.I. have publicly urged for Taylor’s killers to be arrested.
