R. Kelly is under heat from all directions but that will not stop him from releasing music. In a report from Billboard, the self-proclaimed “Pied Pieper of R&B” has a new album recorded and he is in search of a distributor for the effort.
The music was completed while he was an artist under Sony’s RCA Records and was negotiated to be owned by Kelly when the two reached an agreement to depart the label a few weeks back. The agreement was reached after the backlash to the label after the release of the Surviving R. Kelly documentary.
There currently aren’t any details on how the album will release but as the industry has evolved there are plenty of options that he can explore ranging from direct upload to a streaming platform or release for free on the timeline.
R. Kelly’s last album was a Christmas effort that he released in 2016 titled 12 Nights of Christmas. However, older projects from R. Kelly saw a 116 percent increase in sales after the release of his documentary.
Aside from the music, R. Kelly’s name has continued to be a fixture in the news. The FBI has been investigating the history of R. Kelly and both of the women who are believed to still live with him. In addition to the FBI, R. Kelly has issues with the city of Chicago regarding improper construction in a warehouse that he rented that was not supposed to be used for a recording studio or a residence. Upon a search, it was found the warehouse was being used as both, resulting in tens of thousands of violations on top of the over $100,000 he owed in back rent on the property.
Publicly there have been no statements from the singer and his last public appearance was at Chicago nightclubs on back-to-back nights early this month to celebrate his birthday.
