Wavy Navy Pooh was killed in a drive-by shooting outside Miami.
The rapper, whose real name was Shandler Beaubien, was stopped at a light Friday evening (Jan. 14) when a car pulled up alongside him and opened fire, killing him, according to the Associated Press. Two children, ages 5 and 1, and a woman were also riding in the Toyota Camry but were not injured.
“In the front seat, there was a one-year-old child in a car seat that easily could have been struck by gunfire and taken his life,” said Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade Police Department rep.
Wavy Navy Pooh was signed to Quality Control Music where he released his 2020 debut Murder Is a Major Issue and 2021’s Endangered.
“It is with great sadness we announce the loss of one of our beloved artist, Wavy Navy Pooh,” the label said in a statement. “Wavy put his heart and soul into his music. Quality Control CEO Pierre “P” Thomas also mourned the loss. “Sad Day Bra. May God Keep Your Family,” he wrote on Instagram.
The shooter sped away in a four-door gray Lexus. According to Local 10 News, more than 80 shell casings were found at the crime scene and at least one of the guns used was semi-automatic.
