Q&A With New LA Based Female Hip Hop Artist La Brea

We are extremely excited to have featured your debut single “Getting Money”, being an artist we never of heard before this, please tell us who is La Brea? Where are you from? How did your Hip Hop brand come about? What does the name La Brea mean to you?

La Brea, is a breath of fresh air for the New West, Bringing a very unique flow to the streets. I’m Originally from Lakewood, CA and my brand came out about by having high expectations for my self, I knew one day I would be a legend so I figured I speak that into existence for my whole team, and that’s how I came up with my brand “TFL” (Team Full of Legends). To me name La Brea means everything I stand for, with my new project on the way “Grind State Of Mind” my name goes right along with that, La Brea is a very popular street in Los Angeles California you can travel from Inglewood to Hollywood on the street La Brea, and that’s who I make my music for “The streets”. It all goes hand and hand.

Being a brand new artist, how important is it for you to stay as original as possible? What separates you from other female emcees in the game today?

Being original is VERY important to me because these days everybody sound alike, so I’m just happy to vibe on my own wave and be myself, What separates me from other females? I don’t only put myself in the category with the “females” I’m just as hard as a dude, and if anybody put me up against one I can hold my own with no problem. That’s what separates me basically.

ROLLING LOUD!!! Congrats on that slot! How was it!! Did it meet your expectations? No what!? Any more festivals you are working on?

I actually have never had a slot with Rolling Loud so I appreciate the love not sure where you got that info from, with that being said, I’m sure with all the hard work I’m putting in I’ll land a slot pretty soon hopefully! Lol, I got a lot of things lined up though, so it’s all coming together.

Tell us about the creative process behind your debut single “Getting Money”. Dope video btw…..Who shot the video? How was the shooting experience?

My manager actually hooked me up with Paul Malm he’s doing a lot of work in LA, but he’s from Texas, It was great working with him he understood the vibe I was looking for, And the experience was dope especially when I pulled up on the slingshot that added a little more wave to the video for sure.

With this industry being so fast pace, being so busy promoting yourself, what advice do you have to those who are barely releasing their first record, and trying to break into the business? And this is speaking from experience since this is your debut!!.

The only advice I really have to give is GRIND! No matter what! Don’t stop just keep going, the minutes you stop that drive everything will slow down, no matter what’s going on in your life you just gotta keep pushing if you really want it! And yes, of course, everything I speak is from experience.

How does social media playing a role in your success? How are fans / supporters helping your movement?

Social media plays a huge role! I don’t think a lot of people would even be around if it wasn’t for social media. As far as my fans though they dope!! Always keeping up with my new stuff and dropping comments! It always loves! And being an artist a lot of times we need that to know from our fans that we’re doing a good job and getting that feedback and recognition is always a good thing.

With this being an underground hip hop site, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Underground hip hop to me stands for all the artist on the street just waiting for their turn to be heard.
