Pop Smoke untimely death on Wednesday, February 19th took the world by shock. He was at the height of his early career and had a bright future.
Fans and newcomers were bumping his music the day he died and the streams continued to rise by 392% after news broke that he was fatally shot.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data five million people were streaming his music the day before his death, then the number jumped to 24.7 million the day of. “Dior” is in the lead for most streams with 5.2 million, which is a 467 percent jump from the 909,000 listens the day prior.
The Meet the Woo cut “Better Have Your Gun,” also saw a significant increase with 783 percent to 202,000 streams. The digital downloads between the two days increased by 12,179 percent.
Pop Smoke was gunned down in what was initially reported as a robbery gone wrong. But surveillance footage later surfaced which leads authorities to believe that it was a targeted hit. Unfortunately, his promising career was cut short, but he’ll live forever through his music.
