Long live the Woo.
A posthumous album from Pop Smoke is due next month. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the late rapper’s manager, Steven Victor, announced that the project will arrive June 12. He also revealed the cover art featuring a 3D metallic rose against a black backdrop.
Earlier this year, 50 Cent announced plans to executive produce the late rapper’s album and was calling on big names including Drake, Chris Brown, Post Malone, and Roddy Ricch.
“I definitely want to get Roddy Rich and a few of the people that I know that would fit on these records organically involved in it,” 50 recently told Apple Music. “I’m going it to send to them and I’m going to say, ‘Play it. Listen, if you don’t just feel like this is it, don’t even touch it. Please send it back. Delete, and just move on.’ Because he had so many pieces set up that were so good that it’s not tough to put it together.”
Prior to his death, Pop spoke about his unreleased music. “I got a love song coming out. I’ll be talking more to the ladies in 2020,” he told Complex. “I gotta feed them, too. I don’t wanna make songs for ni**as all the time. There’s no money in that. You think I wanna go to the show and see a thousand ni**as? I might as well be in jail.”
A documentary on Pop Smoke and the Brooklyn drill scene is also in the works, as well as a foundation in his honor.
“Throughout the next year we will be sharing new music, as we continue to work to build Pop’s legacy. In conjunction with his estate we will be making formal announcements on his foundation and music projects,” his manager and family said in a joint statement.
Pop Smoke was shot and killed during a home invasion at his Hollywood Hills residence on Feb. 19. The investigation into his murder is ongoing. It’s unclear if he was the victim of a random robbery or if he was targeted.
In February, Pop Smoke released his mixtape Meet the Woo 2 featuring the hit “Dior,” and was also working on a joint mixtape with Quavo called Huncho Woo prior to his death.
