Lil Wayne has entered the Spider-Verse.
The Young Money chief teams up with Ty Dolla $ign and the late XXXTentacion on “Scared of the Dark” off the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The cinematic track was inspired by the protagonist of the film, Miles Morales, who discovers the Spider-Man inside himself.
“I’m not scared of the dark / I’m not running / No, I’m not afraid of the fall,” sings Ty on the melodic hook. “Why would a star ever be afraid of the dark?”
Weezy raps about seeing dead people (“I just tell them get a life”), while X provides a previously-unreleased verse.
The star-studded soundtrack to Sony Pictures’ animated superhero film also features Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” and contributions from Nicki Minaj, Juice WRLD, Jaden Smith, Jacquees, and Vince Staples. It arrives Dec. 17, while the movie hits U.S. theaters on Dec. 14.
Last night, Wayne performed “Don’t Cry,” his Carter V collaboration with XXXTentacion, on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”
